Good morning,

I picked up a leaf blower from ebay, right model for the right price, and knowing that no one sells stuff in perfect condition it needs a little TLC. Done a basic service, but I think it needs a carb kit (bogging down with the throttle, fiddling with the adjustment not doing much).

So todays question:

Do I go for a proper carb kit and put it in the original carb, or do I go for a Chinese copy and a new carb, save the hassle of rebuilding one - very similar prices for both

What are your thoughts?

Thanks

You could just get a AM carb kit. From what I understand they work.  But my suggestion is try and fix the oem carb, rather than an AM carb.

What model is the blower?

It's a Stihl BG85 - not sure if it makes much difference

(reasoning being that there are plenty of spares available)

That's my gut reaction but seeing the AM carbs, they might work, they might not

Rebuild the original carb, the after market carbs are cheap for a reason, check fuel filter in the tank, fuel hoses, gaskets and induction block.

I recently replaced the carb on my blower witha  chinese one. Absolute rubbish, the metal on them is soft and the threads stripped out on it first tighten. Impossible to get a good seal. Kind of looks like metal but isn't any kind I know.

And I value my time so it wasn't nothing lost.
