What Whisky I like depends on my mood.

I agree with Andy that JW Green lable is great for the money,Aberlour 18 is nice.I think I have tasted a 25 from them too.

At the end of the Day Whisky is 40% Alcohol  and 60% bullshit.

I went to loads of Whisky tastings before covid, mainly to try different stuff but the real entertainment is tossers trying to outdo each other with descriptions.

" I detect notes of smokey wet granite and burnt tweed" etc

Understood mike . I gave a work mate a small ( decanted ) bottle of Aberlour 18 year old and he said it was like " liquid Christmas pudding " 🙂 He was completely wrong of course as there was no sixpence

@trigger_andy has just commented on this kind of thing on a different thread.

I believe Big J knows his stuff as well, can’t tag him for some reason.

Like @Johnsond, I nearly killed myself with whisky when I was a young pup, and can just about tolerate it 3 decades later.

I’d quite like to rediscover some nice single malts to enjoy as a sipping drink.

Rather than drinking nearly 2 bottles of Grouse at a house party and falling asleep in a bath.

Which was quite handy because I spewed and pissed myself.

Well I did the same but in a cell in the guardroom at pirbright, woke up in the morning to the screaming voice of the provost Colour Sergeant, spent the next 4 hrs being beasted around the barracks with a floor polishing bumper above my head.

Try telling that to the youth of today ! 🙂

There,s probably not many 18yr old single malts that i would turn my nose up at(drunk far too much over the years), but i did enjoy Talisker. I might get slated for this but there is also an Irish whiskey that i really enjoyed and that is Tullamore Dew,it used to be my go to bottle of an evening,in saying that i,ve now gone 4yrs without alcohol.

What are peoples preferences and if possible explain what it is you like about them .  I am no  "cnosser 😁" but am quite partial to Aberlour  18 year old . Its from Speyside  so the water is peaty amongst lots of other flavors  . I can get it for £104 for a 50cl bottle ( Amazon and much cheaper than other places ) . I have heard Highland Park has good revues and is a similar price . It looks a paler whisky than the Aberlour .

Went for the Aberlour in the end, guy was more than happy with that.

Nikka from the barrel and Coffey malt are my fav two at the minute, Japanese, slightly sweeter than Scottish whiskies.
Highland park i have 2 of too. Sheepdip is a good cheap easy drinker

Does anyone else own a 2ft square plot of land on the isle of islay? I got one free with a bottle of laphraig many years ago! Just thought if anyone else got one we could join plots and maybe pitch a very small tent or something 😁

Got a couple somewhere. I added them to my collection of land on the Moon, about as likely I own either. 🤣
