I’d always would of thought that bigger mechanised kit should mean you charge the same but carry the job out quicker, ie get two jobs done in the same time as one would take another standard gang?

Or just do the same amount of jobs but get home quicker! Off set mech to AIA,  no aching back and more time with the family.

Mechanised can be good ,a lot of work comes up for us where the client has tried getting prices for jobs like the windblown below and no one can be arsed to price them , a few had chewed away at it but no one fancied dealing with the stump. I backed down there with the truck, ripped it out of the ground with the crane and loaded it on, threw it on the fire at one of our clearance jobs . Just me and the lad for an hour =£600,  a few of those a day would be nice :)

So i found out today I'd lost the job,

I quoted £1400

Lost it to £1010,

You win some, you lose some

Hopefully not a silly question, it wasn't a ballsy fell was it?

I'm not sure , I chased the job and he told me he'd given it to someone else at that price,

Don't think it's been undertaken yet

Keep us updated if you can mate.

It’s ammo in your pocket knowing how the competition work and price.

There are a couple of lads near me who are competent with good kit who I get on with well.

They are happy and qualified to do UA work, and I’m not and have no wish to be, so we’ve traded work over the years.

The truth is if I price against them on domestic work I’ll always lose because I simply won’t work as cheaply as them.

Standard 8-4 day, 2 men, 6 inch chipper, 2 loads, they’ll beat me by £100 because they love being busy.

I’ve always got plenty on and a great customer base, but I’m glad I don’t always price against them.
