Homemade BigShot

Does anyone has experience with a homemade bigshot? Or similar throwline-shooting-devices using rubber? I also would like to know the diameter of the rod on the head of the bigshot, thanks!

No personal experience but know of a lad who set one up on a wooden pole instead of the official version - it snapped and smashed his face/eye socket really badly.... Be careful!

i made my own , picture on page 3. 

The rubber part (Big Shot) is 34 pounds or 84 for the complete head .

for anything over 20 meters the big shot is definitely worth having

just buy the complete head it slides on most poles

Thing is if that rubber comes off under force on some Heath Robinson contraption it has the potential to really ruin your day or as above the pole shatters ... personally I’d buy ready made ... not that I’m calling Darrins badly made or out but for the money it’s not worth skimping on.

Definitely worth taking note about the poles. The recommended (only type that should be used) are reinforced fibreglass, the standard fibreglass poles can shatter easily causing major injuries.

I did have one of the Jameson’s poles flex and brake on me ... fixed it with broomstick up the middle... not ideal.

I bought the Tekeuchi or whatevery its called, the Japanese version, head only, and made my own pole out of a section of old fiberglass windsurfer mast, wide end mating with the catapult head and some sleeves of pvc pipe. A hole, drilled through both the shaft and sleeves, then a steel peg aligns them and keeps everything together nicely. Use an archery trigger but don't bother with a ratcheting tensioner system. Windsurfer mast is the way to go, you will never, ever break one of those.

bought the pole and rubber, made my own head (welding kit needed to do this) easy enough and saved £50. metal is same diameter

Considering the price of the tried and tested models, and the risk of serious injury of a home made one, why would you make your own? (genuine question!)
