Thing is if that rubber comes off under force on some Heath Robinson contraption it has the potential to really ruin your day or as above the pole shatters ... personally I’d buy ready made ... not that I’m calling Darrins badly made or out but for the money it’s not worth skimping on.

I bought the Tekeuchi or whatevery its called, the Japanese version, head only, and made my own pole out of a section of old fiberglass windsurfer mast, wide end mating with the catapult head and some sleeves of pvc pipe. A hole, drilled through both the shaft and sleeves, then a steel peg aligns them and keeps everything together nicely. Use an archery trigger but don't bother with a ratcheting tensioner system. Windsurfer mast is the way to go, you will never, ever break one of those.
