Farm wood chipper

As said further back have you considered a branch logger? Capable of breaking down brash much like a chipper but could also be used to convert some of the small diameter wood into a usable product. Nice simple machines that can rattle through a pile of brash much faster than an equivalently priced chipper.

Welmac UK are now supplying the Polish Remet CNC machines like this

branch loggers are wonderfull bits of kit,  I have a smaller one, 80mm, bought direct from poland as a cassete, and built into a machine for a small compact tractor, it goes into the pine plantations with us and most of the brash goes through it, the amount of usable firewood that comes from what most treat as waste is amazing, Id love to be able to justify one of the largr models, the time it would save on branch wood from larger hardwoods would be unreal

When I started buying pine thinnings  from FC the contract specified no timber bigger than 2" and longer than 6ft to be left on site (phytosanitary reasons), now I find I cannot even walk through sites mechanically harvested  for the debris and would love to have the gleanings as firewood and a branch logger to cut them.

Thanks Shavey, very helpful.

Perhaps PeteB if you wouldn't give the Woodland Mills machines yard space you could recommend a machine I could look at instead?

I would recommend that if you buy a used machine that you take someone with you who knows what to look for, check the history with the importer/supplier, consider who is going to sell spares for it, service it and buy something that does represent good value to you. Ideally, buy something that may have a future value should you change your mind and need to sell it. Buy something that suits your tractor and complies with current regulations and hopefully, buy British. With your budget, the search might take time, but something will come along eventually. Yes, I would prefer you to buy a GreenMech, that is because I work for them. But, please, please, please, think on some old adages like buy cheap, buy twice. You cannot polish a turd but you can roll it in glitter. Quality costs!

And to those who peddle sub standard equipment, I would say "shame on you for taking advantage of the unknowing!"

Thanks PeteB, I was looking at new for the main reason that I don't know what I would be looking at used. I know 1 end of a spanner from the other so not a numpty but when it comes to specialist bits of kit you need to know what your looking at and I don't know anyone in the trade I can with me either.

I'm going to assume from the website and the fact that even the dealers have got "poa" against them that Greenmech are a little pricey?

Personally, I'm agin our dealership folks putting anything other than list price on webpages. The whole idea of having dealerships is so that people have the comfort of buying locally, starting a relationship with the supplier that can have other benefits going forward. The list price can be discounted by an amount by the chap who may have to look after it (and you) and a deal done. If a webpage just says £X then there is little left to talk about! If you care to pm me, with your location, I'll have a local sales chap give you a valid quote and talk to you about your needs rather than a "buy it now"
