It's not the registering that needs doing it the punishment for theft of tools but what do the government and police care.

There was a piece on my local news about a plumber trying to get a potion up to send to government for stronger sentence for working mens tool being stolen but no link at bottom of screen telling you how to sign up

I disagree, we have had punishment ever since society began. What's needed is deterrence and that can be making theft  difficult and making it less worthwhile by depressing the value of stolen goods.

I don't think the police should be blamed, let's face it they are the thieves takers and there aren't enough of them, if you wanted to be a wrong'un there's never been a better/easier time. The government on the other hand...

Yes you are right but not strong enough punishment.

The manufactures do their bit by individually marking each machine, they also link the sale of that machine to the dealer. It's then up to the end user to make a record of the a serial number and maybe mark the saw a few times in different places.

The best thing to then do is register it with Arbsafe, plus any other equipment you have as it's free and the police use it to check for recovered items.

Although we register all sold machines with the manufacture I wouldn't just rely on that as we can make mistakes.

Make it a criminal offence to be in possession of any tool without a stamped serial number. Random spot checks on homeowners with powers to enter and search. Public database so people can check if the tools they own are listed as stolen, and an amnesty period to turn in. You can't stop people who don't respect the law, when there is a market for stolen tools. Kill the market, put the fear into those who buy second hand. And conduct sting operations with naming and shaming, high publicity on telly.

What i blame the police for is showing a total lack of interest for the theft of a working mans tools and being scared shit of going and fronting up to the bastards they sometimes know who have probably got your kit

Half a good idea but don't think it will happen, not enough police to do things now.
