Ok what could the saw manufacturers do to make theft of the tools of our trade more difficult ?

im not thinking about throw away tools just the professional expensive ones

i think that all pro tools should be automatically registered on a data base when purchased

They already are.
It's called a serial number.
Ask your dealer.

The resale value and traceability of recovered saws the police can’t prosecute if they can’t prove the saws stolen

The serial number is not on a national data base there is no method of tracing the purchaser of the saw from the serial number just look at the police auction sites

My dealer has all the saws that I have ever bought from him registered . The police should have access to these I would have thought .

what about a microchip in the crankcase difficult to get to similar to the dog traceability scheme

Steve Bullman had Arbsafe on which all stuff could be registered and police had access to it, as do you or I for stuff marked stolen. It depends on there being a large number of users and reports to be effective and I get the impression uptake  was low. It isn't visible here now so probably not being promoted but still  at https://www.arbsafe.co.uk/

 

It also needs for dealers and people buying second-hand kit to interrogate it.

 

The datatag database seems to be less accessible

and  has an annual charge whereas Arbsafe is free for the time being but that cannot last as everything costs.

I just don't get why more people didn't use arbsafe. I've not looked at it for a good while but it was free and looked easy enough to use.
