Wellingtonia felled by idiots!

In the last century before digital pictures, mobile phones etc. A lot of   stuff got done (and didn’t get done) because of difficulty identifying exactly what tree was to be felled.

I’ve got a TPO map done in the 80’s of all the oaks and a few others at our place and it’s far from clear. I had to do a walk through with the TO to make sure we were going to be applying/working and removing the right ones.
One of our neighbours informed the council we were illegally cutting down our trees. (We were doing ivy strips, hangers and large deadwood)
Instead of prosecuting us he nominated us for a conservation award...

I was felling dead elms on the headland hedgerow of a farm when out pops Mrs Pilkington - Smythe  or something from the P.C. and says " what do you think you are doing ? "  I say I don't think , I know .   I'm felling dead elms  . She says  "they look perfectly healthy to me "  She was looking at the ivy . Pompous pontificating old no nothing bat ...

I’m sure it was Spike Hunter who had a similar tale, but Mrs. Merristwood-Pilkington-Smythe or whoever said

’Have you any idea who I am?’

To which he replied

’None whatsoever. Which means you aren’t half as important as you think you are.’

Flipped muffs down and cranked saw up.

Priceless.

When I started like many of others I worked in London, with an address and job description on a scrap of paper and couple of stoned groundies eager to do as little as possible.

So Mick you've changed countries, anything else?'

I'd like get my head up that one as well, me thinks room for two! ?

I reckon we’d get a few of our ‘heads’ up those cavities. It could do with being water tight.
