Bit daft really, 3/8 chain and 5.2mm file.
 I had a boss once who would say, "fetch me 2m of 4" by 2" "
Straddling the Imperial and metric worlds...

I think if it was all metric, it would make more sense, be easier to understand

Well a chain was a long established unit of measurement of length under the Imperial system like.

So it could hardly be metric like!

An, needless to say I got one o them chains stashed away for post Brexit use

Railway still gets measured in miles, chains and yards from the terminus. how do pubs measures work?
