Knowing what you know now... what would be your first saw?

How are people finding there 550xp once the warranty is up? Local saw shop has said he wouldn't touch one past 2 yr old unless it was free!

My 026 seems to be close enough is speed and weight to my 346xp.

Personally I am a sucker for the slightly older, tougher saws, but it's mostly just me using them and I'm am happy to maintain them.

Fine bill, like any other saw really ..I’ve rebuilt 2 though!

That's a fair consideration for sure, but I honestly can't see me selling anything on in the future... I'm a bit of a hoarder. I've got 12 pairs of skis in the shed right now from the last decade and a half of collecting them, I could have sold them on as I finished using them... but they have such sentimental value. They'll make fine shelves one day.

You’ll fit in just grand here on Arbtalk peds, welcome to the madness!

I like you already for that comment.

My view is that a saw is always second hand for a reason, which sounds obvious, but it’s generally not a good reason.

Husky 550 or Stihl 261 are both excellent saws (although both have had ‘issues’ in the past), and that’s what I’d go for in your situation.

Haa, cheers dude, much appreciated.

Seems like there's a fair consensus towards a 550 being a decent bit of kit. I'm buying a few bits of climbing gear first, but as soon as I'm one paycheck in, I might get a 550. Cheers, all!

Personally I'd go for the 560; it's still light enough to swing around all day and has a fair bit more grunt than the 550, making it a lot more versatile especially for occasional big lumps - I usually keep up with the boss's 441 or even 066 buried bar deep in the same oversize timber! I like my tools to be as widely useful as possible, so to me a saw that I can happily use all day which will cut pretty much anything I want it to is perfect! ^.^

Welcome . If you can get a nice 346xp then that would be the one, it will cope with up to an 18” bar (just), if not I would go for a 562xp, bit bigger but Husky seem to have ironed out the problems that the 560xp suffered from in regards to the autotune and pistons getting scored as soon as the warranty was up.
