Not knocking it at all Eggs, it’s just the way it is.
Nowt wrong with making hay while the sun shines if you’re prepared to be flexible.
Said the Northumbrian living in Kent....
Sun always shines in Northumberland bolam. Literally barely gets dark. Not alot of hay to be had though

OMTC,

I would come under the 'other' catagory in your list of shortages.  Would you mind expanding on what you are looking for i.e. minimum requirements?

I am a proessional Design Engineer/Techncian, a decent career on paper but I'm desperate to get off the computer and out the office. I have some money to throw at a bunch of courses, but where to begin? How can I know if I can hack a job in your industry without trying it out for a few weeks first,  but who is going to touch me without any experience or tickets?

I run up on the fells of Cumrbia most days and year round, hence my username. Add to that a healthy dose of winter climbing experience in Scotland and I like to think I could hack a physical outdoor based job, enjoy it even. But I couldn't 'prove' this to you.

I've been in this trade over 20 years and i'd take someone who was fit, willing to work hard, and enthusiastic, over a guy will all the tickets in the world any day.  Its not out of the question to get your foot in the door without experience, you just need to find the right company.  Post on here, ask questions, get your name out there.

Put an advert in the employment section.
There's always crews looking for new staff on here.
Get experience with several firms as each will work differently.
Find one you're comfortable with.
Enthusiasm, drive and determination are essential. Not to mention the 100 mile daily commute and the lack of sleep.[emoji57]
You might get lucky and get put through your tickets by a proper firm.
Good luck mate

Seems to be the opposite up here in sunny central scotland.

Lots of good staff but not enough work.

I know a couple of really gifted climbers doing forestry just now as theres not enough work  elsewhere for em...

Seen my regular tree work slow down too

I wonder why that is.

Genuine question, this time.

OMT must be laughing about this thread keep being pushed to the top.
