Best lightweight pro saw I’ve used has to be a 346xp. Doubt if there are many good ones to be had second hand though.

You'd be surprised mate.I got a decent one from ebay and a friend got one

(On my recommendation) from gumtree which was a good saw aswell.

Any 2nd hand purchase is a bit of a gamble but if you do a bit of snooping around the sellars social media and ebay feedback etc you can get an idea if its a lemon or not.

346xp's are still available to buy new in france, infact ive seen a link posted on these pages a couple of times.

Spud ported my 346 ( 2004 saw ) and it is still going strong .

I just bought 2 346’s and 2 357’s, second hand, ex environmental agency, they are in good nick, 2 have been ported by spud and the other 2 are spares. I wont be buying another modern saw. Our 560 didn’t even last 3 years, my 1991 254 is still going....its sad that the new saws are so poor but that seems to be how they are.

I have a couple of the dolmar 5105's.
Bought them as I often had other people using them (which my 550's didn't like) This worked well, they're everybody's friend.

They're strong, super easy to start (easier than an ms180!) And no electrickery carbs.
They do feel a little clumsier than the 550 and are a bit fatter, as well as a tad heavier. I've also found them a bit more thirsty.

But, if it's a one man forestry saw, I'd definitely get a 550xpg.
It's quicker, nimbler and lighter. The disadvantages of it being slightly less user friendly aren't really an issue if you're the only one using it.
And it'll earn more money by being the quickest.

Thats what I’ve found with the 550’s , ok if you have your own designated saw but if they get past around they run like shit until they have adjusted after a few mins of the operators style of cutting.. they like being used hard too, so no good for the timid saw user who won’t keep revs up.
Would not mind trying the echo 50cc but cant give up my 550xpg it’s a keeper.... was never a fan of the 346xp though, just found it too flat.
