Yeah, the trick is not to test the limits of falling compared to survival rates.

20ft wont kill you if you land ok. Same as slipping in the shower will kill you if you don't land ok.

I'll try and explain better!

 

I was a crazy kid. Liked jumping from height. Never died. Minor injuries is all. 

 

I fell 25 ft once and corrected my fall mid air but landed on the heels of my feet and didn't roll or whatever. The shock burst L2. This was not planned it was an accident. 

 

What I'm saying is if you fall 20ft and don't land BADLY or on your head  or on a chair or some shit, you most likely will not die. 

 

This is the same reason 30mph speed limits are in place in built up areas cos 20ft you are really only travelling roughly 30mph. It's gonna hurt, you might die, but death is not guaranteed. 

 

If you fall 60 ft then you'll be travelling at nearly 55mph. Death is almost guaranteed.

It’s all very well being able to survive a fall , but factor in a chainsaw falling with you at the same time and I think the chances of injuries would increase somewhat !

 

In fact........If you fell 16 metres and you weighed 100kg , you would reach about 64km/h and hit the ground in 1.8 seconds.....

Not factoring any friction ?

Just occurred to me I've got these tickets and I'm kinda legal etc but frankly I haven't got the faintest idea of where to go from here. 

 

I haven't even worked out a a kit list. Other than a pretzel zigzag, a cambian saver, some ropes, of fuck know what width really, and a top handle saw I just do not have a clue lol

 

Oh yeah and some prussocks and 3 way caribenars etc.

I would say don't go kit mad. Know a brilliant tree surgeon who has bugger all climbing gear. Know a few part timers who look like christmas trees with all the shiney bits. not saying either is wrong, but you can get through with very little.

I would say a ZZ, two lengths of rope one at 15/20 meters one at 40 (nothing says newbie like climbing a 6 meter birch with a ridiculously long line.

 

Strop of some description as a secondary line, spikes, a topper and a mid range saw.

And a cambian saver, one of those metal round the tree lines dunno what they're called. some clips to quickly hold tools?

 

Also a a silky and leg strap and good pair of secaters with leg strap?
