Seriously age is a big factor, just look at the HSE death statistics for all industry, those over 60 accounting for 25% of deaths

That’s a sobering thought when you switch off your bedside lamp at night

About 5 years ago I was felling what looked like a straight ash in a dingle (didn't realise the bigger branches were one side) and it barber chaired 10-15ft up then sat there with the top end balanced on some thorn bushes. It was one of those horrible moments where you don't know which way to move.

Only way I could safely get it down in the end was with a winch, I wish I had taken a photo because I doubt (and hope) I'll ever repeat it.

Quoting a conny hedge reduction without having a good look in the hedge first.

Many times, worst was 3 and a half days for 250 quid (was last century though)

I was sobbing quietly after the second day.

my mate killed himself, that was pretty stupid, barber chaired a leaning tree and got his chest crushed against the one behind him

I'm sure if Jody wished. he could of furnished us all with the grisly details..  Its gotta be hard enough to speak of a good friends death without having to throw a biography in to boot..

Doing leylandii hedge reductions.

The money can be good but it’s horrible work, yesterday I hit the metaphorical wall.

I was tired after two hard days elsewhere and turned up at this job thinking “get a good start here and you’ll be ok” so the rain continued and with wet gear moving from tree to tree was like wading through treacle, I tried to convince myself it was doable (and it was, on a dry day if I was fresh and 10 years younger)

But at 1pm I called time on it, back Monday and it’ll be a breeze I hope.
