Birds of prey .

Just come back with the dog . Just seen , at the same time , in the same bit of sky ( say 200ft circle )  5 Buzzards 4 Kites and a passing through Peregrine .  The Buzzards did not seem bothered abut the Kites .  Over the last 10 years we have seen a huge increase in the numbers of Buzzards and the same seems to be happening with the Kites now .  (South Downs National Park near West Dean W. Sussex ) How is  it your area ?

I was back In Wisborough Green recently and saw a kite, amazing really how quick they have come back.

 

Buzzards, kites, hen harriers, short toed eagles, all fairly common here in the Charente.

 

Edit. Used to see Hobby hawks here till the drop in swallow numbers.

Plenty of buzzards here in Kent now, love seeing them, especially on the still summer evenings wheeling on the thermals.

 

I saw 7 at once just outside the village last year, miles up.

There's a few buzzards about here in mid Wales and loads of red kites. Saw 12 in one go as we baled hay.

Plenty of Buzzards about here, not seen any Kites locally but have seen a few an hour or so up the road around Cambridge, Huntingdon.

 

Last Friday I was waiting to pull out of a junction when a Sparrow hawk took a Pidgeon right opposite me. Lovely bird the Sparrow hawk but I wish they'd kill their pray before they start eating it.

I live in south Oxfordshire. There are Kites everywhere you look. They are doing really locally. I've never seen one past High Wycombe when travelling back to London via M40.

Sunday before last I was out for a stroll in Woldingham and there's a hidden valley on a farm (we got thrown off by the gamekeepers!) in which we counted 14 kites and 3 buzzards at the same time.  The wind shifted slightly and in 30 seconds they were gone.

I see plenty of sparrowhawks when I am working. Lots of buzzards and the occasional sea eagle here in fife.

Ok Thanks you lot . The Buzzards are like confetti here . The Kites are increasing at a similar rate that the Buzzards did 10 years ago . I would say Sparrow Hawks and Kestrels are slightly in decline  , just my perception .  Not seen a Hen Harrier for about 5 years . A Hobby took a swallow just above  my head 2 years ago but not seen one since . We now have a number of Peregrines as the breeding pair that live in the Cathedral  in Chichester have had several off spring over the years . It is what it is ! .

Just Buzzards Buzzards and more Buzzards here. Not complaining as love seeing them gliding around on the thermals but no kites here yet.
