Horse-Flies...Been bitten yet ?

One begger was after me this afternoon, I couldn't shake it off ,whichever way I walked it was flying round my head.

In desperation I went and sat in the truck with the windows up for a while til I thought if safe to venture out again.

I only got bitten once, as a kid, on my arse cheek! Bloody thing turned into an open sore for a week or two...

Haven't spotted any yet but they will start on me soon enough , I come up in lumps the size of half golf balls , hate the barstewards .

bitten last week on the hand - after 12 hrs my hand looked like a rubber glove filled with water!!

Not seen any in Pembrokeshire yet thank feck as I react really badly, arm or leg will literally swell to twice the size :-(

No and it doesn't fly either

start eating garlic regular it gets into your sweat glands and they do not like it

Not sure if they don't like my smell, but I don't think I have ever been bitten by a horse fly which seems pretty odd in this job.

 

Probably the same as with a lot of these bugs - some are affected worse than others.

 

Have had loads of bites, but no serious reaction - except to try and swat the barstewards when they actually bite

Saw my first one of the year yesterday.

I remember my dad saying 'watch this!' As he would let one bite into his arm!

'They can't fly away so quick when they're biting'

He'd say.

I do that now and my son hates it!

I've had one between the shoulder blades , it was like a hot spark.

I think they are active for about a month and especially bad for two weeks. For North Northumberland that is.
