With my jensen it costs me £3 in fuel to fill a transit, be interesting to see what the cost of a 35hp petrol would be. Also I prefer lighter if possible for maneuverability

I drag my tracked chipper aroubd all the time, have considered a nice light chipper for just domestics. Maybe next year, see how i feel

I run an old (1999) Crary Bearcat 8 inch chipper. It has a Kohler Command 25hp petrol enjun.

 

While it is more expensive to fill up and only having a modest 25 ponies to play with it is also amazingly capable and does better than i ever expected. A busy day with alot of conifer chipping can cost me about £12-£18 in petrol.

 

A 35 hp petrol engined chipper would be very good me tinks, however i stihl fancy having summit i can run on DERV and buying a Schliesing or a Jensen 540 at some point. For now i'm happy enuf.

Our Forsts were taking about 20 litres /day on powerlines at most so about £10/day, the Vanguard 35hp engines specific fuel consumption is shown as 8 litres/hour at full power,.

 

Problem is I never did get to record actual hours used per day so a bit difficult to make the comparison.

 

As I said there should be scope for a watercooled SI engine set up purposefully but sticking a B&S standard industrial engine in aint it.

 

Back in the day we had a large industrial vacuum cleaner using an VW 1600 air cooled car engine so I wonder if any of the little japanese 3 cylinder car engines could fit the bill.

so 8 liters a hour on full throttle for the petrol jensen and we all know chippers have to be at full throttle to chip so at a pound a litter 8 pound a hour that ouch money on bigger jobs and at the end of the week a fair size bill
