so 8 liters a hour on full throttle for the petrol jensen and we all know chippers have to be at full throttle to chip so at a pound a litter 8 pound a hour that ouch money on bigger jobs and at the end of the week a fair size bill

Just had a Google to see what the kubota 1505 fuel consumption is supposed to be. It's saying 2.2 gallons an hour which is around 10 litres? I've never gone through that much an hour??

The point being HI idle is not the same as full power

 

A diesel is more efficient at part throttle but not necessarilly at full power.

 

There are ways of running a SI engine at HI idle without throttling it (which is where the low volumetric efficiency happens).

Our Forsts were taking about 20 litres /day on powerlines at most so about £10/day, the Vanguard 35hp engines specific fuel consumption is shown as 8 litres/hour at full power

8 litres!

I knew the 22/24hp Honda twins where around 4 litres and my Briggs Vanguard 18hp on the CS100 was 3 litres but 8 per hour is double that of a 35hp diesel.

Plus in France you cannot claim back the vat on petrol except E85

My little Jensen 518 has never used more than 7 litres in a day and it does a bit of work to earn its keep

Stu, according to your link TVA is récupérable on petrol (carburant) that one uses in tractors/chippers etc.
