  2. Hello all, from suspect bot. Steven P, you correct in your observation of Road, Kerb, Garden. The so called kerb area is part of my garden. I decided to move the fence area back, thus missing out on the awkward situation of having to fence around the tree. In a normal situation, I would have used the tree trunk as part of the anchorage system to attach the fence to the tree as a sort of living fence post. However, given that the tree in the photo has a TPO on it, I couldn’t do that. My question is simply that for the first time I have noticed that this fungus has appeared and I am asking the advice of all of you on this forum of what you would do in my situation, especially given that the council is involved in any debate regarding the the possible felling of this tree. They are not happy with the thought of me felling the tree because of any comeback from the people who placed the TPO on it in the first place. However if the tree is diseased, showing following distress eg. Branch die back, premature fallen shrunken curled brown and yellow leaves, branches falling that snap easy, termites everywhere, tar spot to mention a few things and now dryads saddle appears. Well what do you Think?

  4. Morning gents, autumn is here, leaves are turning and falling. Blue sky with some clouds and shaping up to be 19 degrees. Heading to the coast today so the dog can get a swim in the sea to help his sore ears, it always helps plus he loves chasing seagulls. Have a good 1.

  10. Faithfull Nail Puller 60cm (24in) | Power Tools Direct WWW.POWERTOOLSDIRECT.COM The Faithfull nail puller is the perfect tool for removing nails from most materials, lifting floorboards, opening wooden crates and... A modern version of an antique nail puller my father in law had. I never really tried it as it was designed to work. You use the slide hammer to bury the claw under the nail head then as you lever it the claw grabs the nail and pulls it. I see no reason it wouldn't pull a staple. I quite fancy one for reclaiming pallet boards but I so rarely have the need now.
  11. Brilliant Stephen, congratulations.
  12. Woody Paul was right. We did go back to insurers, who refused to fund more treatment. We shd have stuck to our guns, but we are committed now. I think it's important to make it clear to both insurers and possible future buyers that the subsidence problem has been dealt with and the mitigation works carried out exactly as prescribed. Tree-fancier123, many thanks for that very detailed advice - really helpful to have precise measurements to follow. The problem with letting it grow is that we would be continually having to cut back - not a simple weekend job with a 3m stump. We might let a sideshoot regrow as part of the hedge (if it survives the treatment) and see how we get on. Now that there is more space and light I'd rather embrace the change and plant on either side of trunk with hazel and hawthorn seedlings, more interesting than the leggy privet we inherited.

  14. yes, I recall that was a later model, an old trick to play when we were kids was to bumpstart an old bsa bantam field bike by pushing it backwards, and then offer a go on it to the many asking, they would put in in gear and let the clutch out expecting it to go forwards, but it went backwards instead. pretty soon everyone had caught on.

  24. @Andy full Education/training wise the obvious next step is to do your Level 4. This will open the door to tree officer and consultant roles, but will also bring a lot to your every day Arb work. In the meantime, a change is as good as a rest - it sounds like you're just stuck in a bit of a rut where you are and who you're working with, and have become the go to person for big dismantles. Lots of decent firms inside the M25 rely on good subby climbers for nice reductions, deadwooding etc. I'd do a bit of market research on companies in whatever bit of London you want to end up in and reach out to them for a few shifts. You can have a lot of variety and if you're good you can pick and choose who you work for. You could keep an eye out for Arborist jobs with the City of London who have in-house teams that look after Hampstead Heath and Eppong Forest. Otherwise I think the Royal Parks have contractors do their tree work and local authorities will have a mix. As others have said IRATA /Industrial rope access is another option with lots of work in on London, but I've never met someone in rope access that wasmt working on their exit strategy out of the industry.
