  2. Where I see lots of benefit in AI is beuracracy. If you think of civil servants who work for HMRC, DWP, D of E, and many others, replace these with far fewer humans (presumably AI will need oversight for a long time, maybe always) and use the money saved to actually improve public services. Get rid of 1000 people at D of E and employ 1000 extra teachers for example.
  3. I have used a scag flail mower extensively on national park footpaths, have got them over some tricky terrain and lost many flails in the process. The NP had some old scags that were 15years old, solid machines. They chopped them in for new ones which were 10k each and then had to pay extra for electric start. The build quality on the new ones was terrible. They replaced them with AS walk behind flail mowers and I was told they were a lot better. They are hard work, if it's dusty you get covered on dust! But they beat up material well. We used to hedge trim down each side of the footpath, this could be anything you could possibly get a hedge trimmer, then smash it all up with the scag, left a reasonable finish. Also used for cutting grass in car parks, it cut the grass well enough but was only when the zero turn was out of action. Gets a bit tedious stomping round after it all day and if it's undulating the handles rise and fall quite a lot which can wrench on your back. I mainly use a brush cutter now but would have a scag if a cheap one came up but they are never my sort of cheap.

  6. Anyone on here using old vintage trucks,or ex wd type stuff as a useful addition to the operation? when I was younger I had an old J type Bedford with a Reynolds-Boughton 4x4 conversion, proved invaluable in many jobs, in a dumb moment I sold it and regretted it since, If I could find another I would have it, but due to the rarity I expect it would be hard find one I could reasonably afford. I am considering something similar to use just for my own use, and been looking for an Austin K9, or similar 4x4 truck. anyone thinking of selling one, give me a shout. cheers.
  7. I have ordered a couple of times. Not sure what feedback I can give other than the price was rather appealing and they arrived in swift order, pretty much all one can desire.
  8. @Johnsond That aged well...
  9. For who's interested, I finally got some time to strip the saw down and have a closer look at it. All the flexible fuel lines etc. were fine and on initial inspection so was all the wiring. It was only because I had dismantled the saw and the top handle assembly was hanging off the body did the problem show itself. The black wire coming into the handle had broken about an inch inside the sheath and the weight of the dangling handle pulled it out. Otherwise I'd have never spotted it. Luckily just enough wire left to solder the two halves together and it's running fine again. If the fix doesn't last I'll replace the loom but I surprised myself solving it, so I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts. Happy New Year!
  10. Delicate. Lovely work mate.
  11. Great looking truck!!! Dunno if this is of help/interest?
  12. Frosty here, just really got up. Tom has a visa application in for the USA, if he gets it, I'll sell up at Shepshed and Caz and I will live together! My only new years resolution! What's yours? Lie, Caver, Gin.

  14. Check the pipe size to the spool valve, 1/2" or larger and don't use quick connections or compact 90s as they restrict the flow. Plus check the case return pipe is as large as possible, had an old Leyland with a 1/2" return, bored the nut out and made it 3/4" made lowering the loader less like watching paint dry as open circuit means your dumping into the returning high pressure oil.
  15. Does it smell of burnt oil ? Could be getting by the rings or the valve guids ...

  17. We are looking for a climber and people interested in other aspects of countryside maintenance work! If you're just interested in climbing (and have your relevant tickets), do get in touch. But if you're interested in the other aspects too, that would be a bonus. Anyone else who is interested in only the other aspects, get in touch too! We offer a wide range of services across the north York moors (based near Whitby) including tree surgery, tree planting, brushcutting, knapsack spraying. We've got a large planting contract starting soon and its a lot of work! So more than happy to hear from a good number of you. Here's a link to the indeed post for a little more information: Just a moment... UK.INDEED.COM Thanks!
  18. Looking for a 2nd hand 4th edition ISA study guide, before I drop £100 on one Cheers
  19. More lead in this one, 280g. I'll add a steel ring on each, would have been better to buy them in advance and insert while it was printing.. While I've been trimming hedges today I left the printer on, I now have A pair of Stuka sirens.

    Fungi on oak

I'm back at this one today. The informationI could find, was that puffballs only grow on dead wood, and will not decay a healthy tree. Here is a better photo showing the position on the buttress root. Short video to show the spores, which are now dark green. VID_20251230_114444.mp4 Please ignore my ladder-hedge cutting safety shoes Should the fungi give any concern to the long term health of the oak? Thanks
  22. Looking for a permanent position in Leeds or close to. Full time ideally but would consider part time on the books. I'm new to it so don't have loads of experience but I've done a bit of subbying as a groundie for the past 6 months or so whilst putting myself through my tickets. I have CS 30, 31, 38, 39, 40, 41. First aid + F. Is anyone hiring, or know of anyone who would be interested? Thanks
  23. I ment to say round here it's a mix of flexothene and then really rather expensive clobber. As mentioned I am mostly in flexothene bibs with an ex RAF jacket or old sip or cut climb- just so any birds on the footpath know I climbed a tree once.

  25. I need to replace my lines. Had tachyon for a while, bit stretchy for srt, once your weight is in it it's good, find it's great for drt. Not sure how one would cope on a windy day the stretch is handy then. Did replace my short line with some drenaline but I find that hard to hold onto, but is improving as it fluffs up. Not sure what to get next.
