  2. Yo, mediocre part time tree climber here, life-long mountain and rock climber. It takes time for muscle memory to build up, and to forge the right pathways in the brain to use newly learned skills effectively. Passing an assessment doesn't mean you are a capable operator in any discipline, it just shows you are technically capable of becoming one. Your assessor probably clocked that you were just having a brain fart, but that you'd be well and able to perform decently given enough practice. Don't lose any sleep over it, channel that frustration into a motivation to get out and use the skills you've learned until you can do it reliably, 100% of the time, even when you are cold, wet, hungry, and in the pouring rain. Get out there and get good. (I'm sure some of the better tree guys will have something to say too, but there's really no difference between a tree and a mountain when ropes are involved: ****************ing up will still kill you or the people around you.)

Purchased it off an Arb mate years ago and it’s strong but not pretty, I’ve had a box made with a roof now so this is no longer needed, measurements are in the pictures, collection only between Milton Keynes and Towcester. My ranger is a double standard 57 plate cab but the box does overhang the back as came off a longer bed ranger. please note it does NOT have a roof (had people ask me that πŸ‘)

  10. If all else has been eliminated then possibly crank seals leaking. Using the saw on a different plane can cause loads to be transferred differently to when the saw is used in a cross cutting action, and can highlight a leak. Most often I see this with hedge cutters. Work fine until you try to use them on the side of a hedge and similar thing happens.
  11. Im new on Arbtalk and i decided to make a account so i can talk to some advanced climbers and climbers in general, i've just turned 20 and over the past 2 weeks i've been doing my climbing tickets, climbing with saws, Ariel cutting and rescue the whole lot and i've enjoyed every minute today was my assessment and when it came to doing a rescue on a stem with spikes i completely freaked out and my mind went blank and my assessor basically had to tell me how to do it even though i had done it fine at the beginning of the week thankfully i passed all the other areas and passed my assessment and have now got my tickets as a climber i just keep beating myself up about that rescue and felt like i didn't deserve to get passed i don't know if any of you guys have ever felt like this, the reason i'm posting this is not too look for attention but this is the only place i feel like i could talk about this and maybe get some answers and advice
  12. 2 posts in 2 years see you in 2026 🀣
  13. Sounds like brilliant fun. I'd jump at it if it was near me.
  14. Request some demosπŸ‘ all the different manufacturers will let you try these machines for a day. Having owned TW, GM and Forst myself I wouldn't look back from the 3 Forsts we have now. Give them all a try, they all have their pros and cons
  15. I need a better Asimov challenge. That one has never got a reply. You could argue the lack of reply is the proof but it doesn't feel conclusive enough. I want to force the thing into admitting it's a robot.

  17. I stick to larch or Douglas fir myself bomb proof
  18. I think the dodgy links get edited in after the post is approved.
  19. It was this article that made me lose any respect I had for the arb association
  20. What is a ballpark figure for a set of cs100 blades? (I’ve got the Italian Peruzzo copy on tracks but I believe it is identical to the cs100)
  21. Our forst experiences match micks. Great machine when it running well but the brake downs were regular. In fairness redwood did sort them but frustrated with the Agro it causes doesn’t come close
  22. Amazes me people advertise something without pics or a website link.
  23. Get them to change the fuel to the "Correct fuel" while you are present and then make your mind up. With machines like this, I usually strip the carb, check the gauze strainer, check and generally raise the needle metering arm like ADW said, make sure all the diaphragms are OK, change the fuel filter and sometimes remove the H&L screws and get a bit of carb cleaner down them. I would normally open the H&L screws another 1/2 turn on how they were set and then try it. Most saws will give in by then and work fine with just a final adjustment to get the revs right. Using Aspen may sometimes require a slight richening of the L screw but the "wrong fuel"....it isn't like you are loading it with coal is it.
  24. Why don’t you share some photos so people can see what you have?
  25. Just personal experience. I had an ST8, terrible machine, worst chipper I ever owned.
  26. Aye I’ve heard you say that before … personally my experience of them and the machines has never been a bad one, I think unfortunately you will always get one or two machines from anywhere that will be like that but I’ve never heard any one really say anything bad about them other than the paint work…. and the new ones are mostly galvanised anyway. I had a 220mx with thousands of hours on and it was still on its original bearings but my TW needs a new set every 300 hrs !
