  1. Past hour
  2. I bought the varcol 150 @£34, around the time kram spoke of it, I'v used it so far in 9 different saws, of all ages and brands and it's performed flawlessly in all of them.
  3. You tell em prominent Woman! That'll show em. "Signatories include the musicians Paloma Faith, Charlotte Church and Anoushka Shankar as well as Labour, Green and independent MPs including Kim Johnson, Ellie Chowns, Diane Abbott and Zarah Sultana." Hardly a comprehensive list of grass roots Woman by any means.
  4. I'd strongly suggest you follow Mick and Bocca's recommendations -with the addition of a secure chain, lock and (boxed) ground anchor, underneath the trailers -where it's more difficult to get at, with a cordless grinder? Just get busy with a stick welder and some 5-10mm plate.. Also, planting 1m high plants of Berberis/Cotoneaster/Hawthorn at 0.3m centres, along any boundary/fencelines. Add 1.8m posts and a couple of strands of razor wire support lines, at 0.5 and1m high too (not barbed wire !). On mesh fences, the addition of high opacity green nylon privacy netting maybe helps. This is easy to find on the net and better than Scaffold netting. Install several strategically placed bird boxes...with a wildlife trip camera in one? Run a LED floodlight and PIR sensors off a Car battery in your container unit. Avoid the self contained security solar cell units, that have batteries that die in the first good frost of the year. I know all this sounds absurd, and you likely think it is/might be: overlooked/secure/all insured, etc -but the consequences of a successful theft absolutely guarantees return visits, more grief for you and higher insurance premiums, if you can even get future cover.. Sorry to appear so 'doom and gloom', but yes, I do speak from the benefit of first hand experience...
  5. What do I hope to gain? Peace of mind, and long bar life. So far, so good. Re unit cost, I know that bulk buying saves money, but while I certainly use more than a couple of litres a year, I don't use so much that saving money on chain oil is vitally important, especially if: it leads me to have issues with oiling, or incur repair/early replacement costs. Like I said, if it ain't broke...........
  6. Training another idea? You're either cut out for it or not, you'd already know.
  7. Over time there has been a few threads on container / yard security... to save time in the discussion we usually fall short of wiring it to the mains on an evening. The more you can do the better, you'll know the yard - how would you break in, then add an angle grinder and brute force then work out how to stop that. Best you can do is slow them down really if they want to get in. What is the visibility of the yard like? Out of sight or not? A couple for you to think about - what exactly are you going to keep? Just the chipper and trailers or more? Just chipper and trailer you can secure them individually, but a container full of stuff needs some thinking, also the values - no point putting in £20k of security cameras for £5k of kit for example - but ask the insurers the minimum they will accept too in the case of a claim.
  8. Prominent UK women tell rightwingers: stop linking immigration to sexual abuse | Immigration and asylum | The Guardian WWW.THEGUARDIAN.COM Exclusive: Open letter says politicians are exploiting violence against women ‘to fuel hate and division’
  9. UK Mini Trucks | Customised Daihatsu Hijets UKMINITRUCKS.CO.UK Customised Daihatsu Hijet Mini Trucks for UK farmers, gamekeepers, and businesses... Maybe worth asking this lot and see what they can do. Farmer near me has bought one for his son.
  10. "Pissardii" is a fastigiate variety of cherry plum. It is almost certainly a Prunus cerasifera.
  11. Prunus cerasifera ‘pissardii’ Quite right Rich.
  12. Is it not a Prunus Pissardii? Thats what I used to call them.
  13. Today
  14. Bastard to reduce btw.
  15. Always been a purple plum in my universe.
  16. What’s even more of a pain is arriving to your yard in a morning to find your chipper gone. It takes 5 seconds to push a chipper inside a container. It’s a two man job which we do every evening. Or for the times I’m alone we have a battery winch set up inside the rear of the container and I use that to pull it in on some spare climbing line. That’s about 30 seconds. I second what Mick said. I’d just add that you want a box welding onto the lock of the container door so that once the padlocks on you can’t get an angle grinder on it. I’d also park your trailers in front of the container doors and put a wheel lock on them so they can’t be moved. Just an added layer of security to stop them getting in the container quickly.
  17. What a hoot ! 😃
  18. Just in case but don’t think so
  19. I think if you cut off a chickens head and post a pic of the blood splatter we could probably advise you better. I’m pretty sure insurance companies use something similar to determine their premiums for that year.
  20. Aye.
  21. I think it’s Prunus cerasifera but doesn’t 100% fit. Any better ideas?
  22. I'm not sure if relevant today, but back when I was a young'n insurance costs were affected by the popularity of insurance claims, for instance mini,s were popular among young drivers , but the crash rate was high because of inexperienced drivers, the premiums reflected this, certain 4x4,s are stolen to order and gain places an increase on insurance, it might pay to approach a friendly broker and inquire as to what might be a good choice. the next year all being well and with a years experience under his belt, the choices would broaden.
  23. Marketing / selling of any manufactured item ( woodwork or other ) is not easy , in fact it is a whole subject/ industry in itself , think of all the famous brands ,,coca cola . ferarri, stihl etc they all spend a lot of money and time / effort on marketing !! ...however for such things as woodwork then most probably country shows etc I would imagine would be best ...social media can work but is very time consuming and most followers will be other woodworkers who are unlikely to buy your work , I do a fair bit of woodturning and sell mostly through Galleries but could easily make a lot more stuff than I can sell , craft fairs can be very hit and miss ! Good luck .....
  24. ...and yet... the one who brags of the highest wages, 3 or 4 times the industry standard is the first to whinge like a bitch with every tax rise, every penny of tax money paid out, and the ones whose political affiliations are to the centre and left, barely a peep. Are you actually reading the threads in this forum?
