    Cambium Savers

Nothing wrong with my splices. It wasnt about saving money but learning and practising the skill of splicing. The rings were bought from HoneyBrothers who are one of the largest UK arb shops, or perhaps one of the most well known. They are rated, 25kN parts from what looks to be a reputable brand. Have you looked up their history? They were set up by a ex ISC guy. They are not a traditional manufacturer as they do not make anything themselves. Anyway, I'd suggest chrome is not very well suited to connectors, particually aluminium where the metal underneath is soft. The chrome tends to become rough and flake off. In this case I believe impact against the tree or between the rings has caused the roughness. Polished them smooth, problem solved, will be using them tomorrow. I have some steel Kong biners that are chromed, so AtHeight are not the only ones. It can flake off of steel too. Its just odd as, annodising is much cheaper, more durable, looks better, doesnt cause any issues when dented or wearing through.
  3. Looks like damage from the rings rubbing on each other to me.

This At Height lot need a bit of scrutiny. They've sprung up from nowhere, most noteworthily offering a biner that looks a lot like an ISC Big Dan. And I can't for an instant imagine why ISC would be licensing or OEM manufacturing for them. And they've sold kram some bizzare aspartame chrome plated cambium saver ring.

  6. Especially when your life and that of those you work with may depend on it
  7. Kram the amount of shite you buy is unreal. Have you ever heard buy cheap buy twice? Just spend your money on proper gear in the first place.
  8. Can't help but laugh. The OP is certain he can improve on industry standard kit, for less money, then complains when his own ideas aren't up to his standards.
  9. The plot thickens. I thought they didn't quite look like ally, but assumed it was just the photo.
  10. I have no idea what he was talking about.... Not sure he does either. Is it related to his dementia testing I wonder?

Had a much closer look. These rings are very unusual for an aluminium product - they are chrome plated! On the other side, the rope has polished some the chrome away, the line is quite visible
  12. Weird. It's got to be the rope surely? Nothing normally in a tree would be hard enough to scratch aluminium like that. Plus the direction of the abrasion as you say. That being the case I'd be concerned about your rope. If there's enough grit in it to cause that. Make it a long and agitated bath. Unless it was the throw line. Seems unlikely as well.
  13. I'm grateful the rats round here don't carry crowbars. I've managed to get the rats around our house by baiting up an area for several days then shooting them with a normal scope at dusk as they nip out to feed. That has the bonus that I can guarantee a safe backstop. I'll get a night vision setup at some point.

Been using the first two savers quite a lot! I had a birch job recently, I was doing a few hours, every other day, I left the savers up but pulled the ropes through with throwline, they were up nearly two weeks. Inspected them after and noticed some coarse abrasion on the alu rings, no problem on the steel rings. I cant remeber what way around they hung, whether that was from dirty rope abrasion or running on the tree. Marking is not on the inside face of the rings, which makes me think tree. However the abrasion is up and down, makes me think rope. Rope is soaking in the bath to get any grit and dirt out. I'll give it a fine polish and rotate the rings so the ropes not touching it. Any ideas on the cause?

  20. We are cutting some lovely 30ish year old coppice that's in rotation. We will coppice the thorn too when we are done and leave oak standards. Great to see a local authority planting and managing hazel. IMG_4241.mov IMG_4241.mov
  21. You'd be fine with a decent springer for ratting. I got my Walther Rotex RM8 .177 with a decent scope, moderator, bipod and gun slip for £500 second hand. Took it down the range and it was easily outshooting my mates AirArms which cost double. If you want cheap night vision go for a red lamp. If you're prepared to spend more look for a decent used day/night optic.

  23. The only thing I would respectfully point out is if you are only using it " now and then " when you do use it you want it to be bang on accurate . No point in having something that is not no matter how much you use it .
  24. The daystate stuff does look pucker, but I wasn't looking to spend as much as that...probably wont get enough use to warrant it. my other option is taking my old mans WW1 era BSA .177 to a gunsmith to get sorted out.
  25. Hi Steve . I don't know what you have narrowed down to but there are as you are probably aware several quality air rifles available . I would recommend anything from Daystate just because I have 3 of their products . They are bonkers accurate . Precharged . A sub 12 foot pounds is all you need for rats in .22 or .177 . A Daystate Huntsman Revere would fit the bill mate . ( with a good scope , Hawke or similar )

Bandit 2550T diesel stump grinder. Top-of-the-range Bandit grinder with radio-remote control, hydraulic blade and green-teeth wheel. Approx. £65,000+VAT new now 45 hours on the clock. Supplied with the original Bandit paperwork, manual, spare teeth/pockets, backup tethered remote and Bandit hydraulic testing kit. Recent comprehensive service including all engine oil, filters and coolant alongside a full hydraulic service at Global including brand new genuine Bandit filters. It also had a full set of unused green teeth fitted this week. It is a 2016 machine, making it one of the last Bandit models to use the proven 45HP Kubota V1505 turbo-diesel engine. It uses very little diesel compared to a v-twin petrol and I've seen these engines with over 3000 hours on them. It only weighs approx. 1125 kg making it light enough to be carried in certain 3.5t vans/small trailers. Very powerful grinder, I've done some big stumps with this and it runs very smoothly/quietly. I can provide video of all the functions and video of it grinding if needed. All original yellow paint, factory stickers intact. Some paint chips on the wear parts - plow/cutting head/tie-down points etc. It starts and runs as you'd expect for a 45hr machine. You're welcome to come and view/inspect in person. No VAT to be added. Open to sensible offers - Thanks for looking.
