In what regard has the distilling regulations been relaxed?
  3. I was in Canada in 1995 watching the Ryder cup on American TV. Europe won, and what I remember was how terrible the American commentators were about Europe's win.
  4. Patricia Crowther, aged 97. The UK's oldest witch. 'UK's oldest witch' Patricia Crowther dies aged 97 WWW.BBC.CO.UK She created the BBC Radio Sheffield show "A Spell of Witchcraft" about Wicca paganism in the 1950s.
  5. Can the LPA insist on an arborists report for notification works in CA? I don't believe they can, but stand to be corrected. The old boy who I've worked for many times is in his 80s and had filled in the form himself. Went to the local council office (not planning portal) Anyhow, he's sunning himself in the Mediterranean and the LPA rang him saying the notification has been rejected as there was no arborists report! No mention that the trees weren't clearly identifiable etc. As far as I know, it's a case of TPO or no objection to the works. Thought please
  6. So sorry to read this, fella. There's nothing worse... Have you any photos of the stolen kit to put up ? -Also please think carefully, as you start to replace your kit, how you will successfully foil the almost inevitable nocturnal 'return visit' ? See recent thread on : 'Protecting my yard'

I've made cider for about 10 years now, about 200-250 litres. I've thought about trying distilling, especially now that regulations are more relaxed but quite honestly I have too many hobbies as it is. An alternative to distilling is freezing the cider and decanting the alcohol which of course does not freeze and separates out. The Canadians call this Apple Jack I think. Again, never tried it.

Yep, a bumper crop for all tree fruits here in the NW -though I was expecting less/smaller fruit, given the very dry summer period . Sweet Chestnuts gathered this week. Apple store and new freezer are chocca block. Evidevidently there was sufficient winter rainfall to make no difference to yields. Has anyone here ever experimented with making Calvados/distilling cider ? Just asking for a friend, obviously... 🤔

  11. Feelings running high this time. American crowds not covering themselves in glory, Rory getting a lot of stick. Hoping it goes to the wire.
  12. Husky 540mk3 with the rear handle. They're around the 600 quid and pro.grade and have quite lot of poke for a 40cc saw. Nice and light too.
  13. Caltech Team Sets Record with 6,100-Qubit Array WWW.CALTECH.EDU The neutral-atom platform shows promise for scaling up quantum computers.
  14. Is that what I said? (Rhetorical question) No it’s what I said !! So no explanation then it would seem.
  15. Yes, I'd second Doobin's comments-you could happily run 6-8' rotary blade/swipe on 26hp, for ride maintenance, but you'd seriously struggle to power a flail with that horse power.. Swinging cutting tips are common on most large rotary cutters, and generally better than flails, unless a fine finish is specified? Doobin: you're the first person I've ever seen mowing Giant Hogweed, with a tractor mower -what happened there ! 🤭
  16. Does anyone know if there's a way of setting up the Sthil Pro-Com units, if you won't (or rather, refuse to have ) a Google/Apple account, on your phone or computer ? I really want to buy some sets, for over a year now, but just don't want my data 'shared' with all those anonymous tech 'partners'.. 🙄
  17. Brilliant, Thanks all for the suggestions.
  18. The one in my photo is a cheap Chinese one. Farmtech supplies. I added the push bars for reverse drive., plus a pto clutch. bloody great swing back blades underneath. It’s taken some serious stick, more than you’ll ever give it I should think.
