  1. Past hour
  2. Tom out so can eat a stir fry, chicken, bacon, shrooms, Brussels, courgettes, leeks and rice! Sweet!
  3. Just thought you'd enjoy some quality craftsmanship. Yeah, I agree, it looks like Midlands. As it should be. Don't think it'll ever see any livestock, it looked purely decorative, given the setting.
  4. I like how you think I might know. I’ve only laid one hedge once. Midland though. Hedgelaying Styles – National Hedgelaying Society WWW.HEDGELAYING.ORG.UK
  5. Today
  6. Hi All. not sure if this is the best place to put it but my chipper broke down today Forst st6P. Called Forst and they had a technician out within 90 minutes and had me back up and running by the afternoon. i know ill pay for it when the bill comes in but super quick, polite and efficient service, i cant argue with the service i received. weight it up against the headache of getting parts in, time off work and hire in costs. it made sense. And handily did a service and blades at the same time so save me a Christmas job. So all in all very happy. Just to note it was the main bolt on the top hydraulic pump sheared off. Luckily didnt damage the pipes which apparently is common result. apparently they can work loose over time so worth checking if you own one. Cheers

  7. Apologies Kram, I couldn't find the hedge laying thread so this'll have to do. I cycled past these two earlier, lovely bits of work. What style are they anyone? Alex?
  8. Hi, I made another self led course available online. This time it is: Tree Risk Inspection Basics: Assessing for health and safety. 1.5 hours long. It was created to help people in the basic assessment of tree condition and risk. The idea is that it helps people pick up things that may be or become hazards but also to understand the needs of the trees so we can hopefully preserve more mature trees. It is useful to those actively and passively assessing trees. Please have a look at the full description, or start the course, following the link as it is too much to put here. If you take it, please provide your constructive feedback and a rating so that I can improve future versions. Please share it if you feel that it is helpful. Thanks
  9. Yes, there are a few things that could go cause excess fuel when you cleaned out the carb, or reassembled the choke or governor. BUT I would have thought a carb fuel issue would affect both cylinders equally. I would try soaking the piston. If all else fails, replacing the engine will require removal anyway, so you might aswell give this a go and tackle the crankcase side. It takes time, but technically is not that difficult. Just remember the order that everything goes in and the timing marks.
  10. If you got it free, it’s still too expensive.
  11. Takes up more space, but dries quicker and burns quicker so that space is emptied quicker - not like you would be storing it for years taking up space. Always thought a little better than some softwoods, but subscribing to the cost benefits of 'free' (££ free, time is another thing), I'd take and use it. Paying ££ by the m3 for it I might give it a miss though. I take it as a general rule of thumb that the less energy dense woods - softwoods generally - dry quicker than hardwoods, in mine acceptably dry after a season (wind is channelled down the drying stacks), where hard woods will take 2 years. As a side, willow does carve as well if you ever want a shot at spoons or whatever - and if they go wrong it started as firewood and ends as it too.
  12. Thanks for the replies from Mick Jones and Muddy42. The route that I have taken is that I have removed the cylinder head and replaced the head gasket of the smoking right hand cylinder and it made no difference at all. To remove the crankcase I would have to take out the engine which I am reluctant to do, especially as the right hand cylinder which seems top be the one that all the smoke is coming from is still now ( I tested it again this morning) showing a 100psi compression. The left hand cylinder which I haven't replaced the head gasket is 75psi. Surely a compression of 100psi must rule out piston ring bypass. I'm wondering whether there is anything I could have done wrong when I cleaned the carbs that could cause such serious smoking. If I remove the cylinder head again I'll try the oil test as suggested.
  13. There is that but it’s probably the tastiest bird you will eat... I might take a couple but I’ll only do it if I see 30+ flying over me in half hour. Beating on a shoot in Durham and they must of shot 50/50 with the pheasants be never seen as many and the guns didn’t even get a shot off at the majority, again when I beated down in Cambridgeshire you might of seen one in the entire day despite the woods being like swamps ! I’ll walk up there most nights just to watch them… snipe is something I rarely see now , I used to be able to see 3-4 in an evening on a 30 acre stand now I might see one a year.
  14. Bandit has unveiled the new Intimidator 15XCT woodchipper, developed in direct response to feedback from UK industry professionals. Designed to meet the specific needs of tree care and forestry experts, the 15XCT features a replaceable chip breaker system, with individual breakers that can be changed independently - a key request from customers of Global Machinery Solutions, Bandit’s exclusive UK supplier, to enhance performance and uptime. The Intimidator 15XCT is powered by a high-torque Stage V diesel engine and a four-knife chipping drum capable of processing material up to 15 inches in diameter. Its rubber track undercarriage provides excellent stability, flotation, and low ground pressure, making it ideal for uneven, soft, or muddy terrain. For applications requiring extra durability, an optional steel undercarriage is also available. Operators benefit from a wireless radio remote control, which manages the track drive, feed direction, feed wheel positioning, discharge swivel, chip flipper, and infeed pan. The fish-mouth style infeed improves visibility and approach, while the wide hydraulic infeed tray accommodates irregular timber and multi-piece loading. Edward Baker, Managing Director of Global Machinery Solutions, commented: "The wide infeed delivers faster processing, fewer blockages, and a smoother, more productive workflow. It ensures consistent chip quality, reduces overs, and meets biomass or specification-led chipping requirements. “We’ve listened to our customers and worked with Bandit to configure a machine that truly delivers for tree professionals. It’s a significant addition to the Bandit range and the forestry industry, which we’re proud to launch." As the UK’s official Bandit supplier, Global Machinery Solutions provides nationwide delivery, flexible payment options, comprehensive parts and service support, and expert advice, including on-site demonstrations.
  15. Beautiful little bird, same with Teal, hardly any meat on either.
  16. This has been my feeling for a number of years now . Only ever shot 3 anyway .
  17. Done it when it first appiered .
  18. Beginning to agree with you.
  19. I once took refuge from the rain in The West of England after giving the XT a run out to the transporter bridge. Got chatting to a group of black guys on the allotments there, growing all kinds of exotic vegetables from their culture. I remember the next pub along ( can’t remember the name) heading into town had all the shoplifters in, selling all their knock off on the tables in there, 50 metres from the cop shop.
  20. Well it's simple, if they have a gun your done for at a host of distances, if they have a knife being 10 feet away is a safe distance.
  21. LOL... to be fair I said I would not go to Pillgwenlly in Newport after dark....but thanks for the mention!
  22. Interesting about the ash. I thought the same about Poplar when I was burning it.
  23. As everything that OSM says really. It does have a high moisture content, but it loses it quickly. Overall it dries relatively quickly. Good for fast heat when you first light the fire. Like softwood. Not very efficient in terms of calories per m², compared to a "hard" hardwood like Oak or Apple say.
  24. Fresh out of the box this week https://friarwoodtreecare.co.uk/
  25. I'm going to try to repair the existing housing pin first. I plan to machine the pin with a new circlip groove and lower the nylon engagement part to allow the washer and circlip to be fitted. I know professionals are not keen on the ergo starts for every day use, but they have a place for the firewood cutters who are elderly or physical compromised and require a quality machine. The only problem I have is remembering not to drop start them. I can buy a new housing inc shipping for £74, or buy secondhand none ergo for £63. I haven't checked with seller above if the are Motronic or not as well as they are different. If I could find a secondhand ergo start from a 261 or a 291 that would be the answer. The only other issue is that with the ergo start, saw is not fitted with a decomp valve although I don't think it would be a problem for 90% of users, I can still start my Husky 2100 and Dolmar 9000 without a decomp at 67, what is the general opinion on this?
  26. It’s good to have a reasoned argument/debate Alex. I agree with a lot of the points you make, especially in certain situations. On balance though, I think our country is a safer place if we don’t all carry guns.
