Well as the author of the thread I disagree to a point. It is (at least it was my intention) to mark or bring to the attention of others of the death of someone. Having a separate thread for this serves two purposes. It keeps the Making the News thread clean. It gives a chance to discuss the dead person, GOOD OR BAD. What I think it should not be is a continuation of the squabbling and personal attacks of which there is plenty of other threads. Its like a cancer spreading through the site.

The machining marks which go around the piston are completely worn away, so yes I'd say that is pretty worn and new piston needed. You can probably clean up and reuse the cylinder, definitely worth a go. Possibly also look for a Meteor piston , makes the experiment cheaper and they work pretty well.
