  1. Past hour
  2. Which oil or grease, tbh whatever you have to hand, chain oil is good enough ime. Most of the time they get a bit of a splat of bar oil anyway. What I usually do to install clutch springs is the hold the clutch down with my palm and use long nose pliers or a thin screwdriver to lever the spring against my thumb. The spring either pops into place or just hangs on the drum in which case you just slap it into place. Always refer to the manufactures directions, instructions or recommendations, etc, etc......
  3. Woah, thanks for that detail, Joe. I had completely missed it, and maybe the supplied did as well. I'll ask them about it. I ordered from a reputable specialist dealer in Czech Republic. Unsure exactly who handles their splicing work. Additional detail from Courant in this Instragram post: I can't find that follow-up post, though.
  4. Aren't you though....really?
  5. For the sake of £5.10 and no screw holes in the bench I always use the stihl tool 5910 890 2800. 😉 The recommended grease is part number 0781 120 1109 which is described as a multi purpose grease, and specifically designed for hedge cutter gearboxes...but it is also the recommended stuff for clutch bearings from Stihl.
  6. Too busy publishing rage bait articles about the worst people in the industry. Small businesses and the self employed.
  7. They should have the balls to tell the public not to employ pikies to do tree work.
  8. Always used a length of starter cord. Works a treat
  9. Today
  10. I've just checked ChatGPT and it suggested Oregon Mountain Beever anus grease. Not sure where you'll find some of that at this time on a Friday night though.

    Clutch spring hack

Fucxsake. I want the proper stuff now I think about it. Don’t cut corners, dickhead.

And since we’re now here, what oil/grease for the needle cage bearing? Manual calls for special Stihl lubricant. No, I didn’t read the manual before going to the shop. No, the bloke in the shop didn’t sell me any lubricant when he sold me the bearing. No, I don’t fancy going back to the shop tomorrow. Yes, I will if I absolutely have to. Have chain oil, machine grease, engine oil, maybe 90w gearbox oil on hand.

    Oh sod off

I was surprised at the level of fundraising that they have organised over this! Prints of dendrochronology on everything from t shirts to postcards, and back again! They really got into the felling for money! Don't know why they had not collected the sycamore keys and grow them and sell the saplings rather then beg over phone pads and pictures which are cock all use!
  14. Just in case anyone’s struggling doing these, I just found a lovely way to make it easy. Screw it to the bench and use a cable tie instead of the special hook tool that the manual wants you to buy. Nothing earth shattering. Just a very little bit of joy into someone’s life hopefully.
  15. £1200....I think I will start up the business again and come out of retirement.
  16. Give them a ring and they have some good relationships with people and they can quite often arrange for you to go and see one nearish you.
  17. Just do your usual stuff jonathon and go skinny dipping in the local pond 😁
  18. Oooh didn't mean to do that... was just about to say one of the easiest places to clog up, and also easiest places to clear is the little hole where oil enters the saw bar, and then onto the moving parts of the chain. A small hole of about 2-3mm diameter on the upper part ofhe bar, about 5mm down from the top guide rail surface, where the bar is clamped to the engine. Shouldn't have to be describing this , but I'm beginning to feel that maintenance and regular care don't occur very often with this case.
  19. Good shout Joe. Now I think about it that’s why I went for Kalimba instead.
  20. I was under the impression that Squir couldn't be spliced to meet UK standards. Where did you order it from? Do you know who spliced it?
  21. I think yes the core is reduced, the Teufelberger spLIFE is thinner for the same reason.
  22. Jesus christ! Used to get a few weekend warriors recycling their old engine oil as bar oil, back in the day before answers were a lot easier to get to questions with google now ......didn't realise there's a few out there still doing it.
  23. I’ve only got a bucket as well as the grab Tom. My Klou grab has a ball hitch and lowering bollard on it, which are both really handy.
  24. sime42

    Jokes???

  25. Which ones new and old? I had a new rope spliced buy manufacturer, they said the tighter splice was to stop the karibeener moving around in the splice if its the one on the left
