  1. I've heard quite negative things about the EA before. SEPA seem at least to be flexing some muscle now, but I think our MP should take the credit.
  2. Another installment of the Sewer Pipe repair saga if interested. The landowner emailed our MP, John Lamont. Following day SEPA carried out a site inspection, two days after this the landowner received an email from Scottish Water to inform them this issue will be rectified immediately by replacing a Holding Tank which is operating beyond its capacity, lining or renewing the complete sewage pipe from tank to outlet, and upgrading equipment at the local Pumping Station. SEPA have also told them to remove the shit lagoon from the river bank. Hopefully it ends up as a small victory.
  3. Have done the odd banking with a strimmer while wearing climbing harness tied in at top of bank which made working much more stable, still hard going though. Did one as a nipper with Dad using a flymo like openspaceman has offered dragged across the bank on a rope but as has been mentioned it was ok on short grass. For a large area I think nowadays robo mowers are preferred but expensive.
  4. The highest officially recorded temp in Scotland was 32.9 on 9th August 2003 at Greycrook, a few miles from my house. Today I made it 34, still to see what was recorded officially. The lads looked quite hot but for some reason I didn't much notice it.
  5. There are a lot of people that aren't interested in the hassle of seasoning/processing themselves. Just want to make a phone call and get delivery next day. Stack it and use it is as much work as they want to do.
  6. Ecoplugs would probably be cheaper than diesel these days!
  7. A mate of mine who was an Engineer with Scottish Water until recently tells me the Contractor that would've done both these jobs would've been classed a Tier 1 Contractor, meaning the most compliant, professional outfit covering Scotland! He said he'd often suggested to his boss that they'd be better with a local guy who took pride in his work.
  8. If someone's telling you it's a good little runner, 20 quid part to fix it etc, you've got to ask why they haven't done it themselves.
  9. You wouldn't have much luck with mot fails up here Eggs, my mechanic assures me the "glove" system is used. He places a glove to cover up the warning lights and his mate never ever saw 'em guv. My truck passed umpteen tests with lights showing thanks to this system.
  10. Well, the botched sewer pipe repair on the river Tweed has had another visit to fix it properly. The fix consists of burying the bad work with some soil dug off the banking beside it, which I imagine will wash away when the river rises. They've left the stinking, shitty wipes lagoon as is.
  11. There was someone posting on here recently offering places at an online seminar of business masterminds for tree surgery.
  12. Built this garden office for someone a few years back. Was over an existing concrete pad from an old garage, they designed it and supplied plans. Did everything myself except for an Electrician certifying the work and making final connection. The roof has a sump with drainage contained in it which was planted as a "living roof". And these were the steps that lead to the office, built in place of the former driveway. Stone for bottom step and sleepers held in place with rebar for the rest.
  13. Can hear someone nose sighing with contempt.
  14. Don't know about the Council permission, but DIY install doesn't necessarily mean "bodged". I'm no expert but have fitted a few that were deemed satisfactory.
  15. That's probably where he got the idea!
  16. The most ironic thing about the whole farce is that even though his position was untenable, and he's made the resignation speech, he's still buggering on as PM.
  17. You're selling it well Dan. I can think of a lot of things done lately they would've been handy for. Surprised they give a half wrap equivalent of friction, but moving them around easily sounds great. Lots of possibilities, thanks.
  18. Sounds good, will give them a try at the next opportunity. Like the idea of using for a redirect, thanks. Thought of you the other week actually, had the valtra up Ettrick Valley clearing windblown from the Ettrick Water.
  19. Can I ask, why did it matter what kind of wood it was before you took it?
  20. Bet they've got fags and naughty mags though
  21. Can anyone that has used rigging rings tell me the pro's and con's please? We have some rattling around in the truck rigging locker but have never used them.
  22. Think that's another treevolution...
  23. Sorry, meant Gary112 Steve.
