  1. Had some fun loading a lump of Lime yesterday, got it on with a bit of wriggling. But 50m away from base this happened.
  2. Stihl have put their foot down in the Borders. Seems fair enough really, think the company in question were pushing their luck a bit. Border tree-surgeon threatened with copyright legal action by multi-national company WWW.BORDERTELEGRAPH.COM Almost five years ago, Nathan Mill founded STIHL GAME, a play on...
  3. Don't think it's possible to overdo sunset pics, only happens once a day! We've not had very much in the way of glorious sunsets recently, but the stormy weather has brought some interesting skies regardless
  4. Yes I'm sure a lot of people will find some advice/support very helpful. I was fortunate that I was able to look after both parents at home myself at the end, with the GP visiting for pain relief. Always been grateful it was for a relatively short time, and I didn't have to contend with bureaucracy or care costs.
  5. I'm hoping he'll help with anything Gary, Arbtalk needs a resident agony uncle! But I suspect he means the Elderly care issues that were raised in the killer cattle thread.
  6. Have my mates dog Pippa staying this weekend. Great to have a youngster around again and she's so well behaved, a pleasure to walk with. 4hrs out and about today and she never stopped.
  7. With any luck some of those plucky types at Bletchley can decipher...
  8. I reckon it's just thick, hasn't read the correct books to understand the difference
  9. Something about peeing in the wind?
  10. Can you be a bit clearer on this Gary. Are you talking about the Ivy that grows up trees and causes no sail effect, or the Ivy that grows up trees and causes sail effect with detrimental consequences for the environment?
  11. You asked openly for people to report about Ivy in relation to storm work, to gather data. I did that, but your response gave the impression that it's the wrong kind of data. I might be wrong but I think you've noticed Ivy on trees recently and concluded it's a problem, now you want to gather evidence to support your decision. Your mind is closed to data that doesn't conform.
  12. Wish you'd made it clear that you were only asking for "data" that supported your hypothesis, would have saved me some effort. Science indeed.
  13. The Leylandii are downwind of the trees with Ivy on them. The area sits in a narrow valley and the prevailing wind travels through the wood to reach them so I wouldn't think they'll be more exposed now.
  14. Today's data. Plenty of Ivy on trees in the area but none have suffered damage. All the work was Leylandii with no ivy on it. This was the only Ivy present on damaged trees.
  15. Since Arwen we've been doing storm damage work and I can't remember seeing much in the way of Ivy to be honest. It's windblown at a car park tomorrow where I know Ivy is rampant in the wood so we'll see.
  16. Moon has been bright between the waves of rain, was like daylight at times when out with the dog.
  17. Like that, mine sometimes stands surrounded by cows licking him all over. I'm sure he considers them excellent groomers, but he does leave covered in slavers
  18. Been pretty wet here this morning, waiting for Storm Dudley to appear this afternoon. Central/Southern Scotland has warnings for wind and flooding, trains and ferries cancelled from 4pm. With Storm Eunice due to follow on the heels of Dudley it's a bleak looking few days ahead.
  19. I understand you know a bit about sheep. I've had to deal with worried stock under my responsibility as well and it's not nice. I just think something you maybe don't see is that dogs, sheep, cattle, horses etc aren't robots with only one reaction at their disposal. Just like us they make judgements in the moment that influence behaviour. In my opinion it isn't the presence of a dog that worries them, it's the dogs behaviour or attitude that they'll make the judgement on. If the dogs body language says it's no threat then they've no reason to be stressed. Please consider learning some body language before you get a gun out again.
  20. The sheep in the photo are not worried in the least, they gathered together not in fear but in expectation of being fed, they followed the dog and I happily because they know they're in no danger. I well understand both dogs and stock, and I'm sorry but I think your knowledge is lacking.
  21. How does the sheep know who the particular dog it's looking at belongs to
  22. Had a Willow to remove from a small river last week, "Slitrig Water" near Hawick. There was also a few stumps that had been dug out for flood prevention works nearby to break down and remove. Interesting little job.
