  1. Done a couple of days hedgecutting at a local hotel. First day was bitterly cold with snow and rain but today was short sleeves all day. Great having the little crane to pick sheets from the back side, saved an awful lot of dragging. Lady owner came out to show her grandkids the tractor, "bring the team to the glass house, I'll have soup served at 1pm". Lovely!
  2. Try the chainsaw protective kilt, they're good in the heat. Lets the blower breeze in to all the sweaty nooks and crannies
  3. If you haven't done it already put your details here. https://arbtalk.co.uk/recycling
  4. I'd agree with Spring, seen similar around here. Lots of Ice Houses here, recently did work on top of one. There's a tunnel entrance with full size door on the other side.
  5. Did you read Patrick Goulding's post? He said he'd had that fault code before.
  6. It'll probably be the case that we (humans) will only have clarity on the subject given a few tens of thousand years of hindsight, if humans are still around.
  7. Reminds me of COP 26 where they wheeled out loads of electric cars for delegates but not near enough charging points. There's a photo of all the diesel generators lined up to keep the green cars powered up!
  8. Interesting story, great experience to have. Experience: I let a baby bird nest in my hair for 84 days | Birds | The Guardian WWW.THEGUARDIAN.COM He fell asleep in my palm. As far as he was concerned, I was his mother
  9. Any theories what "Bin hAD" refers to?
  10. On the upside you've increased your enviable collection of saws...
  11. I'm not convinced on point 3, no loss of productivity with WFH, I'll direct you to the DVLA thread as evidence. Personally, I quite liked the lock down thing, with hardly anyone out and about the world was a far more pleasant place to be.
  12. Saw a clip recently where some cyclists were taunting one while riding along a fence line, until the fence stopped and it came onto the road behind them, took 2 out before it turned and wandered back looking very proud of itself!
  13. In the first pic it looks like there are conifer branches on the tunnel. I bet someone can ID it.
  14. We've had a lovely few days of t-shirt weather in the Costa del Borders David. Yesterday actually reminded me of being over in your neck of the woods!
  15. Is it even possible for a novice to do a felling course? Think you'd have to start with crosscut/maintenance based course initially.
  16. Oh, and the page where he talks about approaching a heap of logs to chop with an axe "like a special forces soldier", quickly taking each target of opportunity as it presents itself.
  17. I prefer the page in Tree Climbers Companion where he explains how to use a wheelbarrow as a very comfortable reclining seat at break time, genius.
  18. Was a great half hr sitting there with the dog. Lizard basking next to me, a butterfly, bumble bee, and a treecreeper in the wood behind the wall. Amazing how the sun does that. No pics of the creeper unfortunately, they always know the back of a tree!
  19. Had a little companion at the wood yard today, sunbathing on the wall beside me at lunch.
  20. I don't understand the post fully, seems complicated. If he's paid you in full for the work you've already done, and you've paid him the agreed price for the repairs, and you have the paperwork to prove it, then just decline any further work... The forgotten saw or him possibly using your receipt fraudulently in the future, all irrelevant.
  21. I know several people that have signed up to offer accommodation, there's a distinct sense that the Ukrainians are in need of temporary sanctuary and will want to return home asap, whereas previously the feeling has been that people trying to get to UK were hoping to come permanently.
  22. When you say worst that could happen... I was thinking that's probably the more acceptable possible outcome. How about if the compromised tree fails while you have rope/lanyard attached. I remember a thread here suggesting everything from breakaway attachments between harness and lanyard, to using no stopper knot. Your keen John but I think the best advice you've had is you would benefit most from watching someone else do it. The leaner from your other thread (Birch isn't it?) sounds like a big step as it is.
  23. It seems the longer this invasion goes on the more inept Putin and the Russian military appear. They've made themselves look pretty amateur. It says a lot they can't even supply the basics to some troops in a neighbouring country for a few weeks.
