  1. Bit of apple blossom out. Catkins on the Birch and Cedrus libani getting going from seed in the greenhouse.
  2. Burn it! I like to go for something a little less harsh on the old environment myself. I usually use a mix of high concentrate vinegar/salt sprayed onto the weeds or I burn them with a weed burner. Obviously the other quick method is just use a strimmer to knock them off. Mares tale will take you years of spraying to properly knock back. Same as JKW. You basically have to dig it out in total to get rid of it. Even if you do spray it year in and year out, it moves location just when you think you have got rid of it.
  3. Great shot. Don't see them where I am.
  4. Not in Sussex mate. But yes up in Liverpool and other places. I hear it didn't go down well with the locals when they turned one of your villages into a reservoir. We had similar down here when the local village was flooded to create our reservoir. Though that was a long time ago.
  5. Whatever makes you happy mate. Pretty sure highland Spring is from the hills of Scotland though.
  6. Where is it growing? What problem is it causing?
  7. Blimey. didn't know they lived as long as that.
  8. Wouldn't have thought so. But lovely waters round here. I generally only drink Highland Spring though.
  9. Ooh that would have been a interesting scrap.
  10. Surely a good sturdy post hole digger is the cheapest and most economic solution to all of these.
  11. Well I am sure it is very well done. Though there don't seem to be any photos. Or is that the point?
  12. Photos are always good. But sounds like a proper job.
  13. This is a dwarf cherry I planted in 2006.
  14. Yep I reckon bee fly. As per the Collins complete guide to British Insects. They are quite harmless.
  15. Hi there, As above, there are lots of saws on the market. If the saw is not going to be used daily and not for massive trees then I would say Rancher 455 or equivalent. Echo saws are extremely reliable so I am told and I have always wanted a good echo saw, though currently have Husqvarna. My understanding is that auto tune are better for heavy duty use on a daily basis and made for that purpose whereas the Rancher as the name suggests is good for use on the ranch..... (and the cost is probably more within your budget) I believe the auto tune have a chip of some sort in them and are a little more fiddly to fix when they need a fix. I.e, the electronic parts. I have yet to do any needful repairs on an auto tune so can't be sure. A lot of others with far more experience than I will probably have other things to say about it.
  16. As a kid we had an old Victorian greenhouse and outside was an old mulberry. Loads of fruit on it. Didn’t know what it was at the time, but the fruit was good. Not quite as sweet as blackberries though.
  17. The in-laws won't be liking that news.
  18. Sorry I was being facetious, the photos you posted made your house look like it was on a steep slope. But the wisteria is very nice. Hope your detailed wisteria briefing goes well with Mr D.
  19. Nice. The greens regularly come and feed for ants on the lawn, but as you say, they are flighty. Never seen Orioles here or Hoopoe. Probably too cold and too far. Hoping to start seeing the Kingfisher again soon.
  20. Could be a slightly less hardy species. By the look of the colour it is a more pink colour, than the regular more blue pink. Do you know which species it is?
  21. Beautiful wisteria. Very early out. Is your house on a hill? ?
  22. That's great stuff. Are you using a camera with a fairly long lens to get the WP pictures?
