  1. There's a formula that gives something called a CAVAT value, don't know the workings of it but think the multipier went up in the last year or so. https://r.search.yahoo.com/_ylt=Awr.hjP5g79nNwIA6K8M34lQ;_ylu=Y29sbwNpcjIEcG9zAzEEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny/RV=2/RE=1741814009/RO=10/RU=https%3a%2f%2fltoa.org.uk%2fresources%2fcavat/RK=2/RS=Q3VUsl6QaAQLvMs6Iv0fg6KeJTI-
  2. Lots of opportunities with local authorities round West Yorks at the moment. If they think you're experienced enough they'll probably get you to PTI, otherwise have a crack at it yourself. Do some prep work on fungi ID, think the AA arborist guide is the basis for what you have to know but may have moved on, legal responsibilities (surveyor, landowner etc) and BS terminology to describe work and you should be ok. It's a fairly intense few days but engage the instructor/assessor and don't panic.
  3. There's usually a yard that they'll either sell rings to public for very little or it'll get taken by a contractor every so often, depends how much space is available. Often they'll let you have it if they're on a site and haven't loaded on a vehicle but you'll have to take it all before they leave site or they'll have to take it with them. Just don't go wandering up to them in the middle of a job, wait by whatever site barriers are out or by the chipper but well back and someone will talk to you when they have a chance.
  4. I've got a few bits to do when I get the chance, I'll message you

    Storm Eowyn

Triage storm damage for me I think.
  6. Looks like Plumpton Intermediate Tree Inspection (ITI) - LandPro Training - Plumpton College WWW.PLUMPTON.AC.UK This twoday training course run by Tony Lucas, provides an opportunity to move from the Basic Tree Inspection (BTI) to bridge the knowledge gap between to th... and Kingswood are running them or plan to be Tree Inspection Courses - Kingswood Training WWW.KINGSWOODTRAINING.COM I wouldn't waste your money unless you have no experience, just go straight to PTI. A bit of revision on fungi Arb Assoc Arborists Guide used to be the basic syllabus with extra info provided, swat up legal responsibilities wording so you can parrot it and practice some bullshit bingo with BS 3998 approved terms for works (selectively prune for ...; fell to ... not the terms you se on the job) as preparation.
  7. Hi Feu, You might enjoy a read through this thread Bigger scale and possibly older woodland but a fascinating diary.
  8. try putting a buff over your head under the helmet, the tail helps keep sun of but rain always finds a way.
  9. Hope all goes well and they manage to get you back some quality of life.
  10. I'd be checking for the TPO application that permission for that work was granted for. Unless those species weren't covered by the TPO I'd expect there to have been a pretty compelling reason supported by engineer's reports for that level of reduction to be approved.
  11. Thanks Drew, I'll send a message.

    Any work

I'll keep my ears open, everyone's saying they're busy but the bigger ones are finding it a bit thin so unlikely to take anyone on til winter.

    Any work

Doing your tickets at Kirky's? What driver quals have you got, C+E could be a game changer if you're trying to get a way in.
  16. You can always apply to the local planning authority for permission to fell even if it's not your tree, if it's not protected or in a CA they will tell you. If they say they have no objection you will still need to agree a course of action with the tree owner but it gives you ability to start negotiation with 'I've checked and you can do what you like'.
  17. Fry or grill to get a nice crispy outside then stick it in a butty with black pudding, fried egg, bacon/sausage if required, choice of HP or ketchup and it'll keep you going for a few hours. Climbing might be a bit slower mind.
  18. What are the targets and have you got the means to test extent of sound timber?
  19. Good news, thanks for the update. Live the dream, I bet you'll love climbing when you get a chance.
  20. I did the same at 55 when they kicked me out. Got a good few years climbing in before the body finally stopped me doing it full time. Now been just over a year doing inspections/surveying for the same people and finally called a halt to doing the emergency works call outs earlier this year. Still rather be climbing but have to make do with the odd day on personal stuff. Give it a try, I wasn't as fast in the tree as some of the younger guys but could give them a hiding on the ground.
  21. Are you looking to get into forestry or arb? If arb consider climbing and aerial rescue to open up more opportunities with smaller operators. As always a clean driving licence including towing is useful, especially if you've got Cs on there. Good luck.
  22. Even my local brewery pub has gone from £2.50 to £3 a pint now, sounds unbeatable.
  23. LV for me, has gone up twenty odd percent from last year but still cheaper than many others and they've been good. They also do good multi car rates and take the number of vehicles you have access to into account. A dash cam also seems to bring prices down.
  24. Still alive
