  1. Apparently you could see the ships bow disappear before the masts on the horizon so even the ancients figured a curve was involved
  2. The most plausible explanation is usually the actual one. Period A year or two ago my son came home saying there is no actual footage of planes going in to the Twin Towers. I thought he was kidding. This is how stupid it gets. Flat effing Earth. Q! All the other shite! Mind, the fluoride in water IS starting to cause impotence here in my street in County Durham.
  3. You having a giraffe???
  4. thanks. great reply
  5. This says it all.
  6. Is that cos you believe in them or find them funny ?
  7. Looks like the most painful bit was pulling the dressing off. He should have shaved his leg (and tip tie and redirect)
  8. Don’t try this method
  9. Ok. More than a random bloke in the street. A keen amateur
  10. So is this an example of coronet pruning? Looks natural On holiday in Forest of Dean. Seen my first wild boars. Also didn’t know so many s chestnut existed
  11. Was gonna ask what coronet pruning was but looked it up I thought leaving dead branches inc risks of introducing more disease into the tree. Now I have just learned about increasing the biodiversity. Over 25 years I have read dozens of books, been on courses, watched innumerable videos but you canny beat speaking to the pros.
  12. I cannot see that anyone has done as you allege. To make it clear I was not making a passive criticism of the work I made it clear I have no training, I just love to do all the necessary tree work needed in my woods myself. (So far I have only lost 2 fingers) To my untrained eye it looked strange and wondered if there was a silviculture explanation. The point was/is experienced professionals passing on their knowledge and skills to those who wish to know??
  13. They are gonna save the planet! Growing faster to take up the CO2 making the wood lighter. Win win. I will be able to lift 8ft stems onto my mill without a block and tackle in 50 years
  14. But wouldn’t removing more foliage further weaken tree? And why not remove all the dead branches from the stem?
  15. Ditto that. I have the Garmin trucker sat nav for motorhome. Put dimensions in etc. Makes feck all difference far as I can see in 2 years, still sends you on roads only suitable for cyclists. Had to put both wing mirrors in yesterday on Symonds Yat in Gloucestershire. I have a truckers road map which is good for low bridges. In my experience always best to double check what the sat nav says with a road map
  16. I know nothing of arboriculture. Came across this oak on a walk. What would be the purpose of pruning it like this?
  17. "gin and tonic has 91 calories. A banana has 105 calories. My doctor told me to make the healthy choice. I love my doctor."
  18. I know I am. In Herefordshire on the cider [emoji6]
  19. Are you pissed? Couldn’t understand a word
  20. Well softwood HAS to go up as well??
  21. Are you talking only hardwood here?
  22. Bunch of tree huggers the lot of yer
  23. When I was looking for a tree jack I came across it. I have a High Lift anyway but could see a heavy stem coming away or toppling uncontrolled on my mill or foot
