  1. I would imagine welder's gloves would do the job with thorny bushes such as pyracantha? the PPE thorn/needlestick gloves are five times the price
  2. in danger of answering my own question here. didn't get anywhere with google for "pyracantha thorns" but when I added "toxin" a result came up with some American farmer saying it causes a hyper allergy, especially severe in people with autoimmune arthritis. feck, I have Palindromic Rheumatism in remission. let's see if it is just my finger that swells up
  3. does any bright spark know how the said plant produces it's skin reaction? i'm not talking infection or thorn arthritis, but the fast acting swelling and pain when the thorn penetrates the skin. must be a toxin but Wikipedia doesn't mention it
  4. repaired. i can now add fencing to the long list of skills i have aquired. the wood from B&Q has gone down hill a bit
  5. yep, the last year i went in 75 my older brother decided to duck me in the sea til i choked and ingested some "sea water". next two days in bed shitting and puking
  6. well in 76 there was patches of crude oil on the sand like the viz poster but more jellyfish
  7. talking about Skeggy. we would go there every year but in 76 we discovered Newquay. i thought i was in the Caribbean. Just seen Jaws and was worried each time i heard a splash. i remember the grass being damaged more in 76 than this year. i had zero midges in my wood this year and fewer mozzies. Earth is not in danger, we are. water shortages, migrating populations failed crops etc. feel sorry for the kids. global warming is going to happen, me turning turning the central heating down isn't going to cut much v the 3 billion of china and india wanting a developed world life style. is skeggy still shit?
  8. Bovril in flask
  9. They need to be desiccated to survive long periods. I’m no expert though, my PhD was in lichen reproduction. Hardly touched on mycological DNA sequencing
  10. Get counselling
  11. Yes but the spores need to be desiccated, kept dry and then find favourable conditions. Even with global warming no chance of that in Blighty
  12. Or being resigned to having a dry night and suddenly finding 4 cans in the fridge your son left when visiting at the weekend
  13. I would imagine fungal spores last for a few decades. Looked for evidence for this and not able to find much. Around 25 years??
  14. is it a joke? please say it is, please
  15. if that is a joke it is sick.
  16. Any good? I bloody hope so cos I just bought one off eBay Germany for £270 compared to £435 uk stores. 7 left if anyone interested
  17. Wife saying she will just be 30 minutes at the shop and the laptop ready and waiting
  18. I read a good book on ww1 wanting to know how it started. No real answer, everyone just drifted into it but basically it was the Kaiser
  19. A bit like disagreeing with Eggs. George Cross stuff
  20. What is it?? 10% of wood in a wood should be dead and left to rot. Sure I heard/read somewhere. The wood I’m thinning I chip/burn the conifer foliage, plank the stems, log the remaining stem from about 8-4 inches and leave the rest. Oh, I leave the stumps high to piss off pedants and give squirrels a viewing spot [emoji6]
  21. Ok, it may be semantics but I would prefer to say “competence” rather than training. A great way to become competent is to have training but a sensible head, experience, knowing limitations and safety netting also count. Most training I have been on ( not arb related) is very expensive in time as well as money. A six hour session gives about 30 minutes solid knowledge.
  22. Happened to me. Checked everyone’s soles etc. Got into bed that night discovered I’d had a wet fart
  23. Ask him what evidence he has for saying it or did he hear Trump commenting on their usefulness
  24. Pussy! You being a grown up can decide on competency. I would have nicked some cones, there are loads of these round my way someone has left by the side of a road, and demanded a crate of beer from farmerThe OP is doing it for employment, I would do it as a favour letting him know what tipple I prefer. I did this one for a farmer using my B&Q corded chainsaw with an 8” bar. It only cost £50 and I looked on YouTube chainsaw fails so as not to make any mistakes The extension cable cost me £200 though
