  1. If you are going for more compost than mulch how long do you leave it? do you fiddle on turning it adding muck or anything ? or just leave it in a pile? i ve gone a bit compost mad and am thinking of using woodchip but am thinking I should ‘precompost’ it for a year before adding to general pile any tips thanks
  2. What will you be doing with chips? small branches plenty leaves ideal for composting ?
  3. One thing to consider is when during the day is someone home if no one home during day then heat store buffer tank defo required. Bigger the better
  4. Any mot problems or did you sell it before it needed one
  5. We had exactly that problem had a new plastic tank buried adjacent to old brick one with spoil filling old tank then plastic pipe moled in On good terms with neighbours so no probs with access and new post and rail round tank
  6. I have three ibcs acting as giant plant pots / raised beds in my Polly tunnel seems to work ok if outside one could face them with pallet wood to make them easier on the eye

  10. Fat baby aococha there seemed to be none today there are loads tastier than cucamelons I hope or its back to tomatoes and cucumber
  11. Potatoes out leeks in british queens old Skool tasty floury spud came across them on ireland
  12. Finally tried the cucamelons cross between cucumber and lime althou threy do look like cute little melons not a massive treat really but zesty mini snacks I might try them in a salad with tomatoes 🍅 with a chilli dressing ?
  13. thanks answers re cucamelons shall resist for a couple more days until they grow a little bigger then try one Grew achocha also know as fat baby it’s a climbing vine like the cucamelons growing wuickly now but no sign of flowers yet anybody given it a try?
  14. I tried some cucamelons slow to start but growing now in front porch fruit size of a modest grape Whenshould I try one ? will they be worthy of their space ?
  15. Do you use fresh grass clippings and keep it away from potatoe stalks? or can you just heap it on regardless thonking about heat coming from clippings or use older clippings
  16. If it’s not a rocky uneven area a scythe with heavy blade might do the job
  17. You could try a broadleaf weed killer if they are In the lawn/grass areas sbk or grazon should give it a fright

Hi whats the best way to curb or better still kill ground elder growing out of a hedge? it’s a pest where it is but really a problem as it invades out from the hedge wary of getting roundup on hedge leaves or bark it’s mainly field maple with hazel and hawthorn ( just bought 5 litres of glyphosate £70 that’s a shock double what last lot cost ) suffocate it with cardboard and woodchip ? if I go for this would piling fresh chip against the hedge stems harm them ? tips welcome thanks david
  20. Tried a bit of semi foraging solomons seal its was bitter and ended up in compost bin Any body tried it with better results ?
  21. Agree with that on chard i just go for the leaves not so much the stems even in Northumberland hills it mostly overwinters
  22. If logs going in green would a big overhang on roof and no cladding be better ?

  24. Hi I have a diesel series 3 the gasket on side of cav fuel pump failed I have tried using hyolmar which lasted awhile then someone cut a gasket out of some gasket paper which weeps any ideas where I could find a gasket? no luck with usual suspects thanks david
