  1. Take a calculated guess. It's 3.3m long Burr is about 120-140 diameter. I'll post the real price I paid tomorrow evening. Clue: (It wasn't cheap, and included delivery to my yard). [emoji848][emoji106]
  2. Even the off cuts look great! This is my favourite, a tree in a tree [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  3. Started this oak burred log today[emoji16] [emoji16][emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  4. In answer to what an expensive log looks like... So if anyone has logs which look like this please get in contact. [emoji106]
  5. Consumables are no.1 Oil,chains, sprockets, files PPE is a must. Now on reflection... I've never seen a chainsaw mill in a shop. Have a chat with@RobD From Chainsawbars.co.uk He supplies the best Alaskan style chainsaw mills, big bars, hyperskip chains etc. Logosol U.K. Also do small attachments for milling, as well as bigger chainsaw mills and bandsaws etc. [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  6. The Spanish flu came in two waves. A virulent but mild flu over the winter of 17/18 2-5% mortality rate. Then in August of 18 it evolved into a virulent and deadlier version. By October millions were dead. The death rate rose to between 30-80% In the following 18 months it killed more people than both world wars put together. Curiously those who were infected with the first wave were immune to the next one.
  7. English Elm? Milling logs? 24"+ tops? Bargain!!! [emoji106]
  8. I'm sure someone on here was running a double 660 mill on .325@RobD Is the man to talk to at Chainsawbars.co.uk [emoji106]
  9. If you're lucky you might find a uk dealer who has an 880 left. Or can get one in from somewhere. Ask your local stihl guys. [emoji106]
  10. You were lucky to find one from a dealer. Nothing else compares [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  11. Discontinued for European emissions regulations is what I heard. Biggest Saw available new is a stihl 661 I believe. [emoji848][emoji106]

That Saw will probably still be working when many modern saws won't. It's a classic mate, hold onto it[emoji106]

Never been run? No warranty. Stihl always fuel and oil the saws at the dealership. Then run to max rpm several times, Before handing it over. It's sadly now outdated and outperformed by the 462 and 500i. Still a cracking Saw though. £500 is a fair price. [emoji106]
  14. The problem is space. You try renting several acres of hardcore to put barns, 2000m3 etc on. Would cost more than the wood sold. IF we could rent space cheaply enough, no one would kiln dry. Bang up a load of polytunnels and that's it. All sub 20% easily. The problem is competing with construction and other businesses, as the margins on firewood are too tight. What really winds me up though is the amount of quality logs chipped for biomass. Like there's not enough chip being produced??? Is just organisation and political will we are missing. I'm off to find a brick wall...
  15. Buy a proper one. Excessively low depth gauges can cause a greater risk of kick back. Not to mention overloading the clutch engine etc. False economy.
  16. This I don't understand. Having cut and sold chestnut and oak for fire wood fir several years in Brittany. The feed back/common Breton knowledge is that oak is denser, gives out more heat but takes two years to season (60€m3) whereas SC is less dense, seasons in one year and burns quicker (45€m3) Bit like the softwood debate... [emoji848] If you're surrounded by oak, Burn oak. If you're surrounded by SC burn it. I absolutely love it. But that's personal choice. [emoji106]
  17. This was on a job recently. Completely fused. Very glad to just have trimmed it and left it. [emoji106]
