  1. Just bought a used but very good condition 550 which seems to run well, but has something rattling around inside the exhaust! I have removed the exhaust and can see it, but it looks like a whole component which is too large to shake out of any of the ports. Any ideas what it is, or should I just ignore it or buy a new exhaust? The gasket broke too so I need spares either way! SG
  2. I got a Screwfix catalogue today with a little stump grinder in! https://www.screwfix.com/p/mighty-mac-cpsc82hex-242cc-petrol-stump-grinder/3771X?kpid=3771X&ds_kid=92700038951747591&ds_rl=1241687&ds_rl=1245250&ds_rl=1249410&ds_rl=1245250&ds_rl=1247848&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIlMj7nbSy4QIVb7ftCh3izA2VEAQYASABEgLZZfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds 242cc and only £3k !! That's probably only 8hp. The photos show it doing a huge stump, but the description says stumps up to 50mm!!!! I reckon they must mean 500mm surely? Anyone brave enough to buy one? SG
  3. Provisionally sold to Lux pending photos etc. If he doesn't want it you get second dibs! SG
  4. My price of £1000 includes the 3120XP power unit anyway! They cost about £6k new !!
  5. It will fit a Stihl but it would have to be a 880. Apparently the Husky is better though as it runs faster? It kicks out 9hp so it's a very capable stump tool! The teeth are not very tolerant of stone though as they need to be sharp compared to other stump teeth. They are basically like a huge chainsaw tooth! See here: http://www.alpinemagnum.co.uk/
  6. I've got an Alpine Magnum I would let go for £1000 if anyone wants it? Comes with a new set of teeth. I just don't seem to use it these days as my 20hp Rayco fits through a 29" gap. Magnum is a good tool with a Husky 3120 running it. Bloody thirsty though! I am in Suffolk. SG
  7. I've got a lovely little 242XP sat doing nothing. Not sure what it's worth, but I'd part with it.....
  8. I found a XP346 locally on Ebay which I won for £140 ! Private user said it cut badly and had no power. Turned out it had the original chain on which I don't think had ever been sharpened (as you couldn't really tell with side of the teeth was the cutting edge!) and the spark plug was loose. New bar and chain and tight plug and I had a virtually new saw for £140!!!
  9. If you can find one, get a Husky XP 346! Awesome little saw! SG
  10. I’ll just leave this here:
  11. Saw this on Facebook and loved it!
  12. Military Grade = manufactured by the lowest bidder! The robbery was carried out with Military Precision = Turned up late at the wrong bank which was empty and probably shot one of their own team! SG
  13. I built my own using Wix. Have a look on my link below. Very easy to use. SG
  14. If there are any 'enthusiasts' in Suffolk, I've got a 242xp and a 254xp in good working order that don't get used any more. Open to sensible offers. SG
  15. As advertised on ebay for £40!!! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Stump-Grinder-Teeth-8-Pieces/202515099301?hash=item2f26d72ea5:g:T0AAAOSwkXFb-yxL:rk:7:pf:0 Previously used apparently?!

  16. eBay is a bit too traceable for serial numbered kit. Most stolen stuff goes on Gumtree or Facebook Marketplace or similar. Some people are pretty stupid though.
  17. Birch is great wood, but can't be coppiced. But what will replace ash when its all dead and gone? Having done some very large, but very young Eucalyptus stumps recently, that has to be a contender for a rapid growing sustainable supply? SG
  18. I got some huge mature Blackthorn rings last year. They burn like bloody gas! Loads of heat and a blue flame! Laurel is quite good once dried. Just started burning some Robinia which seems pretty good too. Softwoods seem to be overlooked in UK though? Let's not forget that our Scandanavian friends rely on it mainly and it's pretty nippy over there in winter! Dried pines are great to burn and most of us undoubtedly use them as kindling to start the fire anyway. SG
  19. But how much of the 11 million tonnes is actually burnt? Even then it is burnt over a much longer period of time. The CHP plant where I shoot burns more wood to create the heat that is then used to kiln dry the woodchip!
  20. So 6,749.57 km2 of California goes up in smoke and we are worried about the moisture content of wood burned here in the UK? Kind of puts it into perspective. SG
  21. The 'Barking Fox'! Also a Chinese Restaurant, but its all closed down now and a bit derelict looking. Andy Strawson is almost opposite it and has a farm where you can offload firewood which he then sells on. I think he buys decent wood. SG
  22. Try Mr Strawson on 01473 658260. He sells logs at Barking near Stowmarket.
  23. So here we have a fairly sizeable Fig Tree just growing sideways out of a brick wall! No damage to the wall and nothing showing on the other side Some small roots can be seen going around the bricks in the mortar, but nothing of any size. Very strange! SG
  24. There's a good market for them! Usually £4.95 each here oven ready!!!!! https://www.wildmeat.co.uk/products/squirrel If selling them direct to final consumers you need to be careful how you label them though, as they may contain traces of nuts! SG
  25. My mother has the same problem, but it is less common in blokes I believe and not thought to be hereditary. Guess I'll just never know. Burning oil fields, depleted uranium etc can't be good for you either? I also flew through a cloud of some kind of Sulphuric smelling gas/smoke at night and nearly choked. Got grounded for a week for that, (as in not allowed to fly - not because I'd been naughty!) SG
