1. Not a bad idea Les.
2. I thought that as well. But there’s only me and the second side is for easy access to collect the cut scabs.
3. There still time to make them into 2x4’s. 😁 Yacht Varnish might be the answer? Ive used it as cladding on my workshop. Well, Larch and Spruce, mostly Larch, will be interesting to see how they both fair. I think the Spruce I’ll be fine in that environment. A local Chainsaw Carver made some Spruce animals for the local council. I believe he told them how durable the wood was. In under 3 years they are quite rotten.
4. How do you plan on protecting the Spruce from the elements? Its not exactly known for its durability
5. I had a skim through I enjoyed the material, Im sure it will appeal to your intended market Hopefully the final format will not be a PDF as it reads like an Procedure I get at work, or an instruction manual Have you read Norwegian Wood by Lars Mitting? I really liked its format and the way he delivers
6. Did not know he could 🤣
7. After having masses of scabs building up at the house I thought I’d best find a solution to handle them better. Found a design on-line that I thought looked good so built it. The idea is you cut all the scabs to the same length and they fall into the space below for easy collection. Will be useful for use when milling as I can just load them right onto it and when it’s full cut them so it’s ready for the next load.
8. I’ve bought the Eufy system. No subscription, expandable with lots of different options. Good resolution. We’ll worth the money.
9. Big log, blunt chain, depth gauges set for softwood = me yo-yoing like a five dollar hooker
10. Chip em and skip em!
11. Very interesting. Not had much to do with it but I’ve a few tons in the yard. Some logs I could mill but I’m fuel hungry right now. These Beech logs would have been crackers milled but needs must 🤣
12. If it’s “shop” new I doubt it’s been finished in Danish oil. Most likely sprayed in something cheap but durable. Polyurethane is where my money is. Squarely is on the right track, how is the (most likely) laminated bits of oak held together? The elements will most likely decimate your bench. As Squarly mentioned pics are worth a thousand words. There could be solutions.
13. Lots and lots of posts on Facebay with seasoned Hardwood at £80-90 a Builders bag round my way. I know a few who sell kiln dried and they’re now over £100 a builders bag (or equivalent)

I’ve not tried it yet. 😬 Melted the Piston and it was a job finding an OEM Piston and Pot for it. Finally got one and it’s in getting repaired now along with the Straight Shot. Hopefully get it back soon as I have a couple of jobs lined up for it.
15. The hydraulics are so simple they don’t really fail. Replacement parts are readily available. You do have to re-charge the oil every 3-5 years though. I’d hate to have to go back to a manual clamp. The hydraulics far more efficient.
16. 😳 He even threw in a couple of half ton logs as they where a bit bent.
17. Some nice Larch Sawlogs delivered today. Need about 3t for an order that will cover the cost of the 11t I had delivered. £90 a ton stung! Not used to paying that prices but certainly nice logs. I’ll use the rest for 6” beams for the log cabin and the rest for fencing.
18. I’m sure the Oregon sharpeners are just re-branded Italian Tecomec’s. Mine certainly is.
19. The one the op posted has a hydraulic clamp
20. Worth a look Automatic chain sharpener | Chain Sharpening Equipment | Sharpening Equipment | Cutting Tools | LOGOSOL WWW.LOGOSOL.CO.UK
The easy way to a perfect result

It is easy to keep the cutting tools in good condition. LOGOSOL has the... Set it up and sharpen something else, double your earnings for the same time period
21. I have that model. It’s a great machine for home use. Not sure I’d be wanting to use it for a business venture. I’d have thought anyone offering chain sharpening services would have an automatic machine.
22. Now that’s a very clever idea! Hmmmm. 😁
23. All good points. But Cathy is looking for logs that will be ready for the Stove this year. Spruce will be ready in 2 months in the right conditions.
24. See if you can find some Spruce. You can almost see the water evaporating off the logs.
25. 🤷‍♂️
