  1. Well you did say 50 years of oil has had us accustomed to cheap heat. It was not cheap though, it was just the going global price. Norway saved the revenue raised through selling their O&G to the UK and Europe. I really don’t see the relevance of bring a country that does not burn much hydrocarbons into the picture? I guess the Oil wealth generated in a country of 4-5million allows for the country to drag themselves out of relative poverty but similar oil reserves spread over 65 million people will have less than a 10th the benefits Norway has seen. Should the revenue (rightly) stayed in Scotland then potentially we’d never see the rise of the SNP and maybe we’d be in a similar situation Norway is today.
  2. Norway did not treat their oil bonanza differently. They sold their oil at the going Brent Crude prices. Norway differs in how they spent (or saved) the revenue from O&G. Norway has historically had cheap electricity due to a significant portion of their generation being from Hydro. Norway does not use gas to cook or heat their homes and rarely used oil. It’s generally always been electricity and wood burners. Their petrol and diesel prices are on a par with the UK. I’ll assume Norway (Scandinavia) has historically had better insulation than in the UK is due to necessity long before saving the environment was a glimmer in greedy politicians eyes. None of this has anything to do with Norways oil bonanza.
  3. Same as it’s ever been in that regard. Folk have been flogging knicked goods down the pub since forever. I’m thinking we’ll see a huge increase in fuel theft. From vehicles, heating oil tanks to even firewood. These things are knicked anyway, but I see a substantial increase.
  4. I think a 10 year old machine will be way outta my price range. Would be perfect for me though
  5. Same with us Eggs. We’ve stopped using the central heating in the mornings and evenings now that oil prices are sky high. We just keep warm cloths on till the stoves kick in. I cook double or triple what the recipe states and freeze the extra in baggies (perfect for the missus when I’m off-shore) We’ve cut out electric usage from near on £300 a month down to £90 a month (pre-increase) not because we have to but why waste the money? Times are going to be hard for a lot of folk, so they have to make some tough decisions. You can feed a family of 4 a health set of meals a day for a few quid. If they have to make meat a once a month special occasion then that’s what they have to do. Theft is gonna go through the roof soon.
  6. Energy is getting stupid expensive. So important decisions need to be made by families. What Diff has empirically observed is what I see here in Scotland as well. These folk who will feel the pinch need to cut out frivolities and knuckle down. They can’t complain about not being able to pay their energy bills and at the same time be going out doing what Diff has covered. Folk look incredulous when it’s suggested to them to turn the heating down or off. Put some warm cloths on and have a few blankets in the living room, it’s not rocket science. Stop using the dishwasher, cut down on the washing machine usage, limit TV or PC usage, prep meals for the week and re-heat in the microwave. There is so much people can do to get their usage down but don’t through shear fecklessness.
  7. Thats a cracker! I'll keep an eye out then. Cheers.
  8. I'll get a rough terrain if forced into it, but I think they are just to big for my needs, plus it has to live at the house and Id rather not have something so ugly siting in full view.
  9. Nice wee machine and would be prefect for my needs Just spotted an older one on ebay for £5k could well be a viable option in 2-3 months time https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/255447750219?hash=item3b79df564b:g:sb4AAOSweyhiOJL2
  10. Close growth rings? In England maybe? 🤣
  11. Looks like DF to me. Surely you’d be able to smell that?
  12. The sharpener is a grindlux re-badged. (I think Logosol own them now?) Someone was selling a cam grind Template to re-grind your Grindlux profile cam to suit the Rippers. I bought it and was happy with the profile. I just can’t be arsed sharpening and setting my own bands.
  13. I think my Esse Ironheart puts out 2.8-3kw to the boiler. The manual states it’s not recommended to run radiators off of it, just the Hotwater tank and one radiator as an excess heat dump. Not sure how many radiators you’re planning on running off of 1.8kw but I’d not expect much. I heat a 280 litre cylinder from my Esse (and one wee radiator) and its gravity fed.
  14. Good luck 🤣
  15. Ok, so you’re just throwing your toys outta the pram instead? Fair enough, but you’re still just making a smug wankfest stance based on no real reason other than “plastic bad” whilst needlessly cursing around burning more hydrocarbons than the thickest plastic sheets would ever consume. I asked you’re reasoning and you replied “really”. Most likely because you know fine well it’s an entirely hypocritical hippy baseless venture to fulfil a nonsensical life goal. It’s laughable. Plastic is most likely the least polluting option you’ve had so far. The best option would be not to fire up your polluting motor home at all, but guess your green credentials only go so far, eh?
  16. That’s cool. Just as well this motorhome runs on unicorn farts 🙄
  17. Really Yes really. it seems a rather smug stance to take considering plastic are basically hydrocarbons. No to hydrocarbons in the shower, yes to hydrocarbons in your fuel tank to needlessly ponce around the country. Surely you see the hypocrisy here? You talk of fitting steel instead of plastic. Have you considered the amount of hydrocarbons required to deliver you a sheet of steel over a sheet of plastic? So again, in case I’m far off the mark I’ll ask in what way?
  18. Bad for you, bad for me, bad for everybody else. In what way?
  19. What’s with the hard-on for plastics?
  20. Don't want to buy a load of unnecessary plastic, don't like the average plastic shower room in a camper. Feels nasty. Easily damaged Oh right. OK.
  21. What’s the deal with being plastic free?
  22. Realistically I need to lift 1.2-1.5t when Im working with Hardwood. If I bought my own Loader the Estate would be happy to provide all the extra ohmph above and beyond. If fact the owner handed me the keys to his new Articulated Tractor over the weekend. I refused as Im not competent in such a machine, he'll give me lessons though. I'll see if I can find a pic
  23. Just your usual Scottish Winter/Spring Could only get the shots as I climbed my stack of Spruce and had some eager volunteers doing all the actual work.
  24. Thats a fair point Les. I'll have to do the sums and see what I can do. Most likely something will have to go but maybe I can hold off and put some pennies aside to get something in place.
  25. This was a quick and dirty way to load the mill without the Avant. Two lads from the paying Estate doing all the donkey work. Was done in 2 hours. Easiest full days milling to date. [emoji3]
