  1. What are you paying per Sleeper? Ive a bunch of Oak like this I could mill you for the right money.
  2. Plus 1 for the Makita 4300. It’s a cracking wee saw for Firewood.
  3. The gullibility of people who still fall into this line of reasoning. Bless.
  4. A time and a place surely? Its like going to a concert and everyone has their phones up recording it (never to be watched again) instead of actually enjoying it. Just because its stupid to use your phone in such a way in that instance and actually be engaged with what you're there to see does not mean that you have to live like a luddite after the occasion.
  5. That’s more like it! Now the op can really feel like he’s kicked himself in the balls. 🤣
  6. Also good points. Worth a £200 gamble and even with a £200 service and service parts replacement he’s quids in on a saw that will most likely last another 20 years. If a collector offered £1000 I’d be tempted to sell, but at £500? Pointless.
  7. Hardly “oh dear”. Try and buy a modern equivalent brand new and how much will that cost? £1000? Or get £500 for this and buy a hammered newer equivalent? What’s the point? He’ll get everything he needs from this brand new saw with no hassle and for £200.
  8. I just use PVA as well. Suits me fine. Anchorseal is very popular and well respected in the US by those who do this for a living. I guess it’s aimed at the high end of the market. It certainly does not flake or peel off.
  9. I only have a wee processor with a 13” bar but I’ve found the Rotatech chains really good value. I’ve filled 16 IBC cages before even thinking about changing it out. At less than £10 a chain I’ve not actually sharpened any yet, just replaced with a fresh new one.
  10. Or you could go the whole hog and get some anchor seal. Supposedly a great sealant but also prevents cracking and splitting. https://uccoatings.com/shop/product/anchorseal/
  11. Be interesting in seeing if you do actually get more than pennies for it. Turners and Carvers always want it for next to nothing and actually seem to feel like they are doing you a favour if they take it off your hands. Seems a shame that the tree owner will not get to keep his own tree for firewood though.
  12. I have an old 034 and its a great saw. I also have an old 084 with needed a Pot and Piston replacement. The OEM Pot and Piston I had to source from the US but the actual cost at the local Stihl Dealer for the replacement and a service was under £80. The 084 runs like new again. Id not write off the 038 if it dies, even genuine Stihl parts are out there for it and its a great saw. If you're not needing a bigger saw then Id run it til it dies and get it repaired if its economical.
  13. I was more thinking along the lines of Solar Panels, Ground Source Heat Pumps, firewood and wind etc. Although I have a fairly new Oil Boiler (less than 2 years old) we've hardly used it in the last 8 months, I only fire it up these days to keep it running. We use the Kitchen Range to do 90% of our cooking and it heats a new 280 liter dual coil DHW cylinder. We mostly feed it with Scabwood from my wee Sawmill. But also go through a lot of virtually free firewood. Its on basically 24 hours a day and heats a portion of the downstairs area of our farmhouse. The plan this year is to install the 26kw Boiler Stove in the Dining Room with a smallish (300 litres) Thermal Store to run the Central Heating so the house will be permanently at the temp the rest of the family likes. Im hoping the Thermal Store, small as it is will be enough to give us enough hot water to heat the house first thing in the morning til we get the Boiler Stove back up and running, if not then the Oil Boiler will kick in. I really need to start looking into Solar Power and Ive a friend in Norway who runs a company that can get me panels at cost price. My for electricity is fairly low though. Including the standing charge Im under £120 a month.
  14. Unless you're producing your own.
  15. I only replied because you dragged my name into it. Its as simple as that. You've just stated that you're proud of what you earn, that you like to tell others about what you earn and can act like a cock when it comes to money. So basically the exact opposite of the reason you initially claimed was the reason for intentionally revealing what you earn. You where itching to tell us all and I was the easiest scapegoat to do so without appearing to brag about it. Quite the disingenuous snake play.
  16. No, you wanted to tell everyone what you earn and to do it in a way that deflected from this so you dragged my name into it. You could have simply stated that your hourly wage allows you to not worry about the energy price increase but you where itching to tell everyone know just how much you earn but do so in a way to not come across as bragging.
  17. You're dragging me into your humble brag by claiming not to do what you claim I do by doing exactly that. Wise up.
  18. That is a big un right enough. The lumps I have are maybe 20" diameter. Ive heard Cherry was sought after but never knew it was that highly valued. I'd best crack on and get mine milled up . Looking forward to seeing the pics.
  19. I personally don’t use banding. I’ve been using cargo straps. I’ve used banding at work though. Both metal and plastic. Is it worth reusing old banding? I can’t see how it’s worth it really.
  20. Banding is cheap and you can reuse the clips. I’d just check every month and reband as required.
  21. What was the diameter of the Cherry? I’ve some fairly large chunks from when my frees came down in the storm.
  22. Give it up Eggs. You’re a caricature of yourself.
  23. Sorry Eggs, I forgot you craved attention too.
  24. What a surprise you’d be the cant to pick holes in my reply. 🙄 I knew some twat would but I’m glad I got the shortlist right. Anyway, I’m sure you are the leading edge in what you are selling. Bully for you. I guess you’re already ahead of the curve. 🙄
