  1. What do you get for £80? A bit of 2" galvanised Box Section? The Woodlands is quite nice actually. And a free winch thrown in too.
  2. Maybe I'm outta the loop. I was buying from the US a lot more when it was two bucks to the pound. Its still way cheaper for me to buy car parts direct from the US. Usually 2-3 days shipping, tax handled in the US no no dreaded Parcelfarce charges. UK dealers take your order, then call the same suppliers and and add their 50% and make you wait an extra week or two for the privilege.
  3. https://woodmizer.com/Store/Product/Index?id=1095 https://woodmizer.com/Store/Product/Index?id=3632 Dont know about the UK site but the US sites have these for sale. Could not see anything different, or cheaper? I'll assume you'll just convert the $ to £ and you'll have the UK price? Woodmizer UK will be able to source them for you surely.
  4. Well the Logosol kit is around £2000 and the Woodlands Mills version is under £500, so Id assume there is going to be a substantial difference in build quality. The Logosol Winch along is about £700 but you get the Winch and Ramp from Woodlands for less than this. But the fact remains, you're getting a bolt on, custom made system that is designed to be securely stored (IIRC) on the Woodlands Trailer for very reasonable prices. If the Op can build a similar system, factoring in the same features for both the Winch and the Ramp Woodland offers for less than £500 factoring in his time then crack on. Personally I know my limitations and could not. Johnsond is a very handy man and I know he could do it. He also built his own Trailer which is substantially better constructed than the Standard Woodlands offering which would allow him to easily mount the Winch etc. Might not be so easy with the Woodlands official version and then you have to consider invalidating the warranty on a brand new trailer as well. All food for thought.
  5. Ive little time really. I'm getting the Winch kit for £460 + vat. It has a few features I like. For example, the 'socket' remains on the Frame so its quick and easy to remove the Winch arm itself. When Milling the Winch 'clicks' back a bit to allow the Mill to pass without having to remove it each time you finish rolling a log up. It also doubles up as a Log Turner. And having had some 30" Oaks on the mill its certainly something Id like. I simply could not build something with all these features for anything like £460 when you factor in my time as well. It would take me maybe 2-3 days. Even just two days Milling would make me more money than that the cost of the Winch and its bound to be the quality that Logosol are known for. I'm sure I could weld a 1/2" plate to a bit of 3" Box section and also fab up a socket to sit it in for about £60, thats including paint, wire wheel, etc etc plus the best art of a day. So say £360 for a days Milling + £60 in materials thats £420 it would owe me and would be vastly inferior. Time is money.
  6. Thats actually quite cheap compared to other Mill Vendors. Logosol for Example are about £2000 for the Ramps and Winch. Ive got the Winch on order but made my own ramps a while a go. 2" Box section with the bottoms cut at the angle needed for the height of the Mill on the Trailer and an attachment arrangement for securing the Ramp to the rails. At £430 for both I'd not even think about it. Bargain.
  7. Always to far from me!
  8. Geeez Les, give it a rest. Seriously, your obsession with me is quite disturbing. Thats two threads you've mentioned me in today, its fascinating that I take up so much space in your head.
  9. I dont think £200 each was the price he was looking for. Maybe try the Milling sub-forum @Dan J?
  10. I hope you're right.
  11. I dont know what the plan for the sleepers are but Beech is not rot resistant like Oak. You be better off with Larch if its genuine Sleepers for the garden, but Im sure you'd get a good few years outta them regardless.
  12. I know all about the back. Had my second surgery in January past. One of the reasons I prefer the Bandsaw Milling now. There's a lad in Fife who had a big Bandsaw, he's £80 an hour. Alaskan Milling can be slow. Maybe a Logosol M7/8 or F2 etc? But yeh, also easier just to pay folk.
  13. I charge £360 a day now. (£45 an hour) But dont bother with less than a full days work. Its just not worth the time to do half days. Not when you factor in all the prep the day before, travel, setting up the mill at site then packing everything away at the end of the day, then travel home, then put everything away again. If folk where coming to me with wood to Mill I think Id do a minimum of 3 hours, ie £135, plus the band. Could be a good investment to buy a 24" or 36" Alaskan yourself? Would pay for itself in a day or two?
  14. I understand that. Seems like the lad is finding sizable bits of rubber, or some other contaminates? I get that wood can break down to such a small size and bypass the filter. But cant see how these larger particles can? I'll have to break my NAS Tester we used out in the Sahara to have a look and see how bad it is.
  15. getting too deep for me. :Dc
  16. I see you swapped the word swap for switch. Clever.
  17. what was the outcome for your Brother?
  18. I wonder how many actually get paid back? Gonna be some significant tax hikes in the pipeline.
  19. Its truly shocking how easily it is to take out one of these loans and how quickly the money is paid out with next to no actual checks.
  20. I wonder if getting asked Post-war, " Are you an evil killer"? Might be easier to say , no I was one of those guys who tried to miss. Its the other 85% where where the evil killers.
  21. He's in Portugal so maybe has inferior fuel compared to the UK? Still not sure how its getting past the filter though?
  22. How does do these pieces get past the filter?
  23. I guess thats why he's got the fake Sky Scam going?
