  1. Roughly 3 barrows to a builders bag of around .7m3
  2. Thats appalling! Should be a 10 minute phone conversation, maybe send in copies of ID to prove it’s still you and then back on track with it. No wonder the country is so in debt. Couldn’t administer a paracetamol without it costing the tax payer half a billion quid!
  3. That’s interesting to know, doesn’t read that way to me on the exempt rule guidance but fair enough, we only travel about 25 miles max so trailer could certainly be an option. I know other suppliers round us have been hit by vosa a few times over it.
  4. You definitely do need a tacho if you’re delivering with a trailer. Forestry exemptions for trailers don’t apply for delivering logs to end users as it’s a commercial use. Any truck over 3.5t GTW also needs a tacho if used for the same purpose I believe. If you produced the logs yourself from your own forestry operations or arb work then you could transport them home but as soon as you do it commercially you need one. Also I find our customers would far rather have a bit of brash left over in a bag than tipped all over their drive to have to sweep up. Some like it tipped but it’s just as easy to tip a bag out as it is to tip a trailer. Tipped loads are generally fine for seasoned wood to load into a log store but bagged is simpler for kiln dried as it can just be stored in the garage. You and the customer both know exactly the quantity and you’re all on the same page, a tipped load could easily be different unless you loaded with a measured bucket.
  5. All options work. The question you should be asking is can you get the customers to justify the expense of any set up? Ps the trailer option requires a tacograph on your towing vehicle or VOSA will be on your back.
  6. If our experience of altering the original application of your RHI is anything to go by, even though it was all applied for originally just connected up over time, don’t change it it’s not worth the hassle! They just continually keep asking for more information, 4 months in with no payment currently!
  7. Heard nothing but good things about woodbioma
  8. What’s your kiln dried hardwood priced at Tom?
  9. Mca kingstone are cheap as any.
  10. Sack your marketing director then [emoji23]
  11. Make sure you tell them there is plenty to go round and maybe even give them some free kindling or something to spur them on.
  12. Which area?
  13. Can’t beat word of mouth once you get going. It’s saved us a fortune over the years. 90% of our current customers were recommended Id say. Either by a friend or the stove shops we supply. Had 3 excellent weeks, doing 16cube a week (our drying capacity) I’ve not had to turn anyone away yet but to expand we’ll need to be far more organised next year and we’ll be doing some location targeted Facebook advertising and probably leafleting houses on foot so I can see their chimney cowls and not waste too many leaflets.
  14. I had a guy turn up in the yard wanting wood for turning into charcoal yesterday. Seemed a decent bloke but he was Turkish I think and there was a bit of a language barrier trying to find out the specification of what he wants. As far as I could tell he wanted dry wood but no idea on size or specific species. He reckoned he needed 5t of wood to turn into 1t of charcoal. Any ideas what I should be trying to sell him and if it’s worth my while??

  15. Just got a fiskars sappie log pick and I much prefer it over the Oregon one I already have. Sticks better and doesn’t have a stupid rubber handle that pulls off! Only downside is that the handle end doesn’t hook neatly onto the processor guarding in between uses like the Oregon.
  16. Well its definitely either the bar or chain, it does exactly the same thing on the other 550 we have with is running great with a 15" narrow kerf sugi-hara bar too. So they're going back to oregon. The 550 itself is a whole other issue now!
  17. Definitely. On closer inspection in daylight, the thread where the spark should run in to (head?) is damaged, or at least furred up with crap. Looks like it’s going back to the dealers because I’ve not touched the spark plug since we bought it. It shouldn’t have come undone if it was put in correctly in the first place.
  18. So I just went to take the spark plug out so I can stop the piston coming up to take the clutch off and the spark plug was loose as buggery. Took a good 3 or 4 full turns to put it back in. Then when to wind it out and it went really stiff as though it had cross threaded. On closer inspection the final thread is damaged slightly. Weird! I've never touched it from new so god know whats happening there! Still not managed to turn the power mate over. Will have another go tomorrow when i've got a new spark plug!
  19. It’s not done a great amount of work to be honest so I’d be surprised but I’ll get all those checked out. Oregon are happy to take the bar and chain back fir testing and replace under warranty but I’d best make sure it’s not my saw before I waste the postage! Would a 18” bar show sprocket or needle bearing issues more than a 15” bar?
  20. Ok thanks I’ll turn the powermate round first. Turning the bar over didn’t change the direction of banana I don’t think.
  21. The bar is like a banana as soon as the chain tension stops pulling it straight. Must be faulty manufacturing or damaged during delivery. Will see what chains direct do about it!
  22. Had 16 out last week and will have another 10 out before the start of next week by the looks of it. This snow isn’t helping though, Nissan cabstars are useless in anything remotely slippy, barely made it out the yard today [emoji23]
  23. It arrived today, works so much better than the old maul. Still not perfect on knotty rings but I can easily work round those parts of the ring and stick them in the processor later. Took me a few swings to half a 20” sycamore ring and then takes no effort to split the rest when it has somewhere to move to. Probably faster than a hydraulic splitter at that point actually! Certainly got me warmed up too! [emoji106]
  24. Both bar and chain are brand new and made half a dozen cuts so not my sharpening at fault. The cutters all look even to me too. The chain matches the bar as it’s 95TXL in 0.050. Ill re-tension and try again tomorrow, ran out of daylight to try today. Thanks for the help so far!
  25. Just stuck a new Oregon 18” speedcut bar and chain on my 2nd 550xp. It cuts like a banana, chain tension is fine and looks bar looks straight to my eye. Any suggestions? Any chance the narrow kerf on a standard sprocket is causing an issue? It’s not a problem with the 15” Sugi narrow kerf bar on the other 550xp though...
