  1. Iv done this befor with a coffee table size board air dryed it outside for a few years then brought it in the house weight it and kept weighting it every couple of week or once a month written the date and the weight on the wood and once it has stoped loosening wight i know it is correct for my house and ready to be used etc.
  2. I did one cut with my chainsaw mill lol haven't used it for quite a few years now since I made a bandmill, I made it when I got a tig welder and wanted to make something to practice.
  3. I think he has made up his mind... ?‍♂️
  4. I think drilling in no1 will be ok just put some big strong washers on both sides.
  5. Looks simple and effective. Thanks for posting, think I'll give that a go myself! Yeah why not little time consuming but save some money and I carnt tell the difference between a new blade and one I have shaped myself so that's good.
  6. I've bought my blades from Stephen cull too I don't do much milling which means I dont do much sharpening but I sharpen my own blades with a little jig this is how I do it. Works really well.
  7. Thankyou yeah will post pics when done but it won't be for a long time unfortunately as I'm still at the building stage of my renovation.
  8. No where near finished but brickwork is done. Logs will get stored in both sides.
  9. Very informative I understand what you mean now. For me personally I want the log burner for more of the luxury rather than a necessity to heat the house. I'm going to be fitting water underfloor heating and radiators upstairs iv got 120mm PIR insulation in the roof apex and each floor will be fully filled with Rockwool for sound and heat so each room should hold it's heat. My understanding is for example if I were to heat the house all day at say 20° some of the heat gets socked into the masonry and once the heating is off it will continue putting that heat back into the house or at holding it for a piriod of time. Which is simular to what you have been saying with the flue etc.
  10. I'm just starting to build my fireplace at the minute I'm gona have log storage on both sides full hight this pic will help you get the idea.

    Looking forward to pictures.
  13. Yeah there well worth milling in my opinion ?
  14. Dose my garden trackor count?....
  15. I bought two elm trees yesterday (ulmus procera) from Goscote Nurseries at Leicestershire I'm very happy with them and this is the only company iv found to be selling them they are micro-propagated from trees that have not contracted Dutch Elm disease. Good price too.
  16. Yeah the blade would blunten but shouldn't snap so can be reshaped etc nails also kills chains don't they? But would still be well worth it in terms off milling speed and reduce wastage in sawdust = more wood. Yeah mine's not bad thankyou it will cut 23.5" so not too bad but I can mill bigger logs then that I just slice the bark and sapwood off both sides if need be. It will be much improved once I build a track then I'll have the best of both mobile and track at home.
  17. Looks like with the amount of wood you mill you could do with a bandsaw mill. ?
  18. I alway buy my phone's and have a SIM only contract I'm paying £19 a month for unlimited text calls and data my phone is a Samsung galaxy s7 cost 350 new a year ago and I usually keep phone's 2 - 3 years then buy new but not the lastest out at the time and I never actually broke a phone.
  19. Interesting thankyou might look into buying a couple. I'm planning a row off trees down my garden which is around 60 meters would like a couple of them to be elms.
  20. Yeah I know what you mean I have also tryed growing cuttings from a ulmus procera tree to clone that which is also local to me only a young tree which originally came from this website which they have now sold out. Iv tryed cuttings 3 separate times with no look they start to grow leaves and look like there doing well then die off and there are no roots started when I look at them. I contacted the site and all the trees they have sold didn't come from cuttings they were grew in a lab which is called tissue culture.
