No sadly we never heard anything more. Interesting finds tend to go to museums or archeological societies. We move onto the next project and very rarely any updates 🤷♂️ Regarding the brownings it would be great to get a serial number and identify the aircraft. Some of the guys are on the nearshore intertidal clearance at the moment. Nothing interesting so far but defo a novel way to get over the mudflats 👍 fbac7903-b9da-4604-b760-f87117699cb8.mov

Cheers Rod Some cracking info there bud, we had to put them back on the sea bed at a wet store location. The archeological rep has got more involved in the process now. Hopefully one of other mag targets is a nice chunk of Merlin engine. Much appreciated Dave 👍 Been looking online and looks like your source nailed it 👍barrel shrouds are clearly visible in the pic.

As a few have already stated getting someone who knows what they are doing ain’t easy , that includes saw doctors. I do my own now which yields far better results. Pointless having a top notch sawmill and crap blades. Tegid does a great job, it was only the cost and hassle of sending blade’s from Aberdeenshire that stopped me just carrying o using him. His advice regards what route to take with the sharpening and setting kit I have now was invaluable. Im changing blades2-3 times a day minimum by the way, often a lot more. -

I can remember doing reasonably ok with iron sights on the old SLR before converting to SA80. Nowadays with a lot older eyes apart from shotguns everything I own is scoped up. Be bloody pointless otherwise.

Is the open bolt an RAF only thing or were all brownings in UK usage the same. I’ve seen a couple of water cooled twin aa set ups online.

There’s not that much of the fine detail left Mike, if the round wasn’t in the chamber we would have been ok to break them down but health and safety et etc 🤷♂️ Those might help Mike, the shrouds are a bit different than what you see online. There was Anti Aircraft towers in this area during WW2 and I think that round may well be an incendiary type according to a bit of online mooching. If you have any ideas it would be interesting to know for sure what they were off.

The whole thing was intact initially, not the best pic for you guys to look at but the receiver/ main body is upside down in pic. Look closely and you can see the belt feed aperture on the underside. Length, general features etc and the rivet/pin pattern etc the uxo Supv ( ex navy clearance PO diver) called it before it was even cleaned up.

No idea Pretty sure it ain’t aluminium as the proximity to steel would have ended up with it acting like an anode, defo not vented, possibly a water cooling jacket but who knows 🤷♂️. Serial number would maybe answer a lot of questions with some research but the unfired round in the chamber makes pulling it apart a no no Didn’t even bother taking the concretion off-the-second one.
