  1. Not just about control at all but the. Response and subsequent levels of control imparted upon people are totally disproportionate to the effects of the virus. I’m on a job with two 16 man teams and no one on here knows anyone personally whom has died from the virus. Power is addictive to politicians whom like nothing better than to tell you how to live your life etc. We live in a world of preventable diseases and always have done, no one gives a shit about many of the other diseases or indeed common flu that kills thousands every year. The mental health and financial stresses being placed upon people and the long term effects on kids are yet to be realised. Regards Covid 19 it’s like the lunatics have taken over the asylum. Shield the vulnerable if they want it, let the rest get on with life if you don’t feel safe stay at home ?‍♂️Wtf kind of existence is it with politicians telling you literally when and where you can do the even the most natural of things. I guess time might tell but judging by past lies ie WMD with Blair don’t expect the truth to be recognised by those in power. I’m no conspiracy theorist or claim to know everything but there is growing evidence to go against the media hysteria unfortunately it will never make the mainstream news. The ire of the person with the preventable illness ???? Really Look at the numbers and the recovered statistics etc etc not just the headline grabbing infection statistics, Nature calls the shots in reality, What about the ire of the person who has lost everything they have worked for for 35yrs due to ludicrous Government over reaction.
  2. Predictable Mark, bit disappointing from an absolute cynic like yourself.
  3. Not really news as such but still an interesting viewpoint shared by an ever increasing number of people.
  4. Earlier post by Andy is pretty much on the mark. Using bits of wood etc can get you into more trouble than it’s worth. It’s ok to go the self fabrication route if you have the kit, time and skills etc but often you can’t match what can be bought for what is in reality sensible money. Search around the forum and you will find a good few posts and images ref people’s work on the Woodlands mills regarding loading and trailers etc.
  5. Any pics ?? How quick do you need it done ?
  6. The EU won’t like that mike. No doubt they will squeeze Norway as they have with the Swiss ref full bore semis.
  7. None at all AK 47/74 family are brutally reliable but the 5.56 is a far better round at longer range. SA SUSAT optic is a decent bit of kit too.
  8. Nice tools, shame a lot of good stuff ended up in crushers due to political gesturing. Mates got a Lithgow bolt action in 17hmr and rates it very highly. I do miss full bore semi auto if I’m honest. 22 rimfire semi whilst good cheap fun and a good training aid especially for the kids ain’t quite the same. I do a bit of PSG and Target Shotgun which is a good buzz, but tend to feel the aches the next day or so afterwards.
  9. Lithgow L1 and FAL ?? In what configuration ??. Pre Ban ?
  10. Musk and bezos will be in touch shortly
  11. Had a decent watts app chat with a very switched on work colleague and former Challenger commander ref reliability and performance of the challenger in the gulf war. His Challenger or wagon as he referred to it performed by all accounts very well, initial issues with filters were as he described it sorted by an intensive cleaning and swap out regime, They did indeed have overheating issues to start with but solved these by a combination of resorting to a tried and tested technique that the original rats would understand ie night moves if possible rather than midday etc. The other cure was a battlefield bodge that re routed the chilled air from the shell storage lockers to the engine compartment. I did ask about the engine pack swap stories, his take on that was the crews are only trained and able to do certain tasks in field and due to how quick they could do a routine pack swap it was easier and quicker to just pull the whole thing and pack it off to the REME units in the rear maintenance areas. The net result would have looked like engines being replaced but were in reality units being returned or swapped back in so to speak as required the reply when I asked about the falling apart stories was that it was total bollocks ?‍♂️. The lack of preparedness he did comment on and in his own words they were set up for Germany not the desert. He did mention the fact that the Challenger managed to obtain the longest ever tank on tank kill recorded.
  12. Not far off the mark bud 8k 3yrs ago ?
  13. Les dear oh dear there is indeed and there is also those whom antagonise for the sake of it. I’ve no idea what you think coded welders get paid or how much grit blasting and powder coating etc costs. Like mr Wright says I’ll take a couple at 2k a pop all day. The timber you get and cut by the way it’s not free, the eqpt you mill it with wasn’t free, time isn’t free it all has to be factored in. Wages and man hrs are probs biggest hit 2 men 500 for the fab work including site visit design measuring cutting drilling welding and factory mock up to check against site visit measurements ????. I days work to mill ,plane ,cut and fit every piece of timber to complete that staircase ?. Not a bloody chance. You are showing a total lack of understanding of metalwork and fabrication at the very least.
  14. Because I’m curious, I’m vat registered Les and can weld well enough to get most codings i can get steel probs same price as you, I’m sure I could source the Oak too but I know I could not get that down to 2k in a million years with mine and two other guys wages.
  15. Give me the breakdown of how you get that for 2K. Design,Materials, manufacturing ,man hrs and transportation/installation etc The description you used was Horrible Les, you do tend to blow very cold on anything anyone else does or posts. Be nice to see some of the stuff you do as like you say it’s all a matter of individual taste etc.
  16. Les I’m sure the guy whom built it won’t be too upset at those comments. He and his wife did exactly what they wanted and achieved the look they desired. The whole barn conversion annex/granny flat and outbuildings has taken him 3 years to complete, of which 2 were spent in a static caravan. He has self built and sold I think 5 properties whilst holding down a full time job in the last 25 years and is now in the enviable position of being mortgage free at 45 in a barn conversion that cost he reckoned 600k all in and is valued at 850-900k. So like I say I’m sure he won’t be too offended as I wasn’t ref criticism of the mrs headboard or Andy’s brother won’t be ref the comments about the table. As for 2K+ there is not a steel fabrication place in the land that will build that for you for that money.
  17. We used what was issued I’m afraid not what we would have liked . I’m long since out nowadays.
  18. Like I said it would not be my first pick if I had an unlimited choice. As for defending rifles from the 60s , hate to tell you but that’s what we had well into the 80s I did my basic at pirbright in 84 and did two tours of NI in the 80s with SLR. SA 80 when it first arrived at battalion level did indeed have faults but it was as I said sorted out by later upgrades. All this is documented and has been debated over many times now. You piss with the cock you have Not the one you want in the British Army bud as if you were in you will be aware of. There are 6 ex forces lads inc myself onboard the boat I’m working off at the moment 5 of which have used the A2 on active service, so a pretty good base from which to draw information.
  19. Indeed it is the Challenger 2 with life upgrades etc etc. SA80 has long since been sorted out. So much gossip and shit about regarding how bad it was back in the day and how wonderful the old SLR was etc. I did basic training with an SLR and by then they were worn out unreliable and woefully lacking in accuracy. My current rifles will all hold under 1 MOA easy, back then 2.5-3 was acceptable with an SLR. Getting the SA 80 especially once upgraded by H&K was a massive improvement for the guys on the ground carrying it, ive used both and know which I’d prefer. Mind you that’s not to say it would be my first choice of all the current NATO service rifles.
  20. No it wasn’t Andy whom was utterly offended by the I quote ranch style headboard. Regarding the RSJ legs etc to be honest the whole industrial and wood combo is very profitable right now. A mate of mine has just paid a bloody fortune for an rsj and oak staircase on a barn conversion.
  21. Yeah that headboard eh ?‍♂️. Mrs still loves it, end of day benefits of keeping her happy are far greater than appeasing the woodwork Meisters on here.
  22. Still here, currently bouncing around 100 miles NW of Shetland at the min.
