  1. I havent been on arbtalk for a while and just today came across this thread. It makes for interesting reading thats for sure. Any of you who know me by my previous posts know im pro independence but not at any cost. Im not anti english or anti british, i fought beside lads from all over the UK and were all the same when you avoid talking politics. Where the game changes , in the forces,is with the rupherts(officers) Usually stuck up,self entitled arrogant pricks born with a destinct superiority complex and a silver spoon up their fuckin arse, exactly the same as most tory Mps. Given that Scotland has returned more Snp Mps to westminster means the thirst for independence has indeed increased. Enough for a second referendum? Well that depends which way you look at the figures but figures can be squewed to suit anyones rhetoric so im not sold on the 81% claim by Hosie. I agree with trigger on most of what he says on these pages im also pro independence, anti EU membership but we differ in the fact i vote Snp,i'll just add at this point that the Snp are by no means socialist the are pro capitalists who actually fit into the neo liberal model, the same as Labour under Tony Blair. I vote Snp as i see them as a vehicle to independence and anyone who votes Snp knows that is their number one priority. The last 2 elections have seen an upsurge in Snp votes and with it comes the undeniable democratic right of the scottish people to decide on our future. Should the rest of the UK be allowed to vote on Scottish independence? I dunno... I think most english folk would say if they want to go let them. Most see us as dour faced fuckers who steal all the money and the rest of the UK would be better off without us anyway. Some on here have looked to the past to justify independence but for me its more important to look to the future. I believe we would be a wealthier nation, not wealthy just wealthier, than we are now if we had full control of our nation. As for the once in a lifetime shite i think its exactly that- shite! 3 general elections in 5 fuckin years dictates that politics changes, peoples opinions change, priorities change so an election or refetendum csn always be justified in guaging the will of the people.
  2. The wife and i have never spoken about this after it happend because it put the shitters up us both. We were in mull couple of years back.We hired a cottage up near Calgary beach, stunning beach if you ever go there. We decided to take the walk around the headland that starts at calgary and finishes at the road which leads to the cottage, weve done it a few times on our visits to Mull. About 11am we were heading along the path, broad daylight,no one around windy but not blowing hard. I looked ahead and saw a wee girl, dunno what age but she looked small, long dark hair and a brown dress on.We were approximatley 150 metres away. The girl ran down the hill and onto the track we were walking on and kept running onto an old peir. The peir is in serious disrepair infact its only a third intact. The wife said to me "where did she come from?", i said dunno. The girl walked out into the peir and walked towards the end of it, weve been on this walk before so we knew the peir was dangerous. The girl kept walking,i dunno how else to say this but she kept walking out till she was walking on air... that part of the peir had gone! She wasnt floating she was walking in air as if she was walking on something solid, then she vanished. She didnt fade she didnt drop she vanished. Imagine you press a button to swith off your tv,its instant, just like that. All this took maybe a 45 seconds. There were no other people, there is no peir where she was walking, she was walking on air over the sea then vanished...in broad daylight at 11 am. It doesnt creep me out,it just makes me question things i thought were fact.
  3. I said they gave me a giggle i didnt turn in to frank bleedin spencer Calm down
  4. The shorts gave me a giggle.... Yanks dont care Neither do i to be fair...?
  5. If your cutting big oak limbs id say the stihl 201tc with a 14 inch bar full chisel chain would be more suited to your needs.
  6. The saw is ported but it gives you an example of its potential. https://youtu.be/xscrsh6xcgs
  7. As mick said above its more of a pruning saw but ive took down limes, sycamores and a couple of decent sized beech so it will do a job for you. Ive seen a vid on you tube of an echo 2511 with a 20 inch bar on it ringing up a decent stem. I ll post a link when i find it bud
  8. Echo 2511 will pull a 12 inch bar no problem.
  9. I run a spud ported 346xp. I say run,not daily use. I love that saw Dont give a shit about insurance, excessive noise or pollution. Out of my cold dead hands...
  10. Nice work bud...good tune too. Music suited the vid
  11. Oh aye,no scottish friends i see... You anti scottish bigot you... I bet you dont even like haggis or tossin cabers ya big jessie... ??
  12. Im at chargehand level just now and the scope for progression within the council is nil. The problem is weve recently merged with another council as "shared services" so many positions such as team leaders, TO's and minor management positions are being reduced in a bid to cost cut. Fair do's but the timing for me, is shite! Realisticaly im lookin at jackin the council and going elsewhere. I was lookin at Irata earlier and its interesting me
  13. Got my mewp ipaf ticket and we have some battery equipment just not chainsaws, dunno why!
  14. There are no vacancies in these positions. If i stay in the council its chargehand on the grounds maintenance squads or in a litter squad.... I dont fancy either tbh. Im thinking Irata perhaps...?
  15. At 47 im a bit young for retirement but i like the finger sniffing thing.... Theres a pokey bum wank joke in there somewhere, but it'll take a Bolamesque sense of humour to find it...
  16. Sooooo...the time has come to hang up the harness, fucked elbows, niggley back and so many other wee injuries of late, including pulled intercostal muscles and cracked ribs from falling out a dead bastard birch and slamming into the stem, also being told 3 days ago im showing the early signs of white finger from our occupational health nurse has convinced me to pack in climbing. What the fuck do i do next? I work for my local authority where i came from grounds maintenace/gardening and into arb work. I need to seriously consider hugley reducing my time on the tools to prevent the onset of whitefinger so the only option really within my council is going into a litter squad.... Fuck that Id be bored shitless in 2 days TO is out as were going to resourse share with another council who will provide a TO to cover both areas. The thought of going outside the council scares the shit out of me, ive been there and i know how hard it is. Starting up my own business at 47 is a total nogo,i would make it work but it WOULD cost me my marriage. I could sub but the thought of climbing or hand cutting into my 50's makes my arsehole pucker up,plus id accelerate the white finger. Arb/grounds maintenance management looks like my only option but i really dont fancy it tbh. Id be thankful to anyone who has been in a similar position. Anyone with any ideas Much appreciated
  17. Ct foot ascender and home made knee ascender. (Just a petzl croll,a footloop which is a tool strop and some bungee)
  18. If your certain on those 4 id say sips would be the best of those. Dont touch the huskys or breathflex, utter shite! Id get pfanner gladiators Pricey as fuck But the best trousers by a country mile
  19. Echo Cs4510 or Stihl 241 would suit your needs.14 or 16 inch bar on both.
  20. The offset is miniscual. Dont get me wrong any tree planting is a positive step but to do any good we need governments to stop the industrial scale rape of the forests and jungle and start planting on an industrial scale. Im with you on the living wild dream. Id happily live up a mountain, self sufficient with my dogs.
  21. Your refering to ddrt vs srt Ddrt being hauling yourself up with the rope over a branch, fork etc Plus points to thats is its easier to pull 50% of your weight and you can use different items to reduce friction at the tie in point. Srt the climber moves on the rope while the rope is stationary. Srt base ties, rope over a fork, branch and the climber moves up the rope by the use of ascenders and a friction system of choice. Pros and cons to both. Most are using srt for ascents(usually larger trees) and ddrt to "work" the tree. Srt is becoming more popular and is being used more to work the tree through redirects.
  22. Climate change debate on a forum populated by fuckwits who cut down trees... Ironic... I include myself in that description btw
