  1. I bought a McCullough GBV325 hand held Blower, cheap enough, good enough for my needs. Wouldnt run out of the box, I had to contrive a tool out of a channel pin anchor to adjust the "tamper resistant" carb screws!! Now it runs fine, but there's a burning plastic smell which I gather is the catalytic converter kicking in....just wondering if I remove the cat, will it be OK for the motor - the back pressure and that. Also are they worth anything? I know crims apparently steal the cats from under cars because of the platinum in them.
  2. Moral duty?????? :homy: (facepalm) Look - in the dinosaur days the CO2 concentration was five or six times higher than is is today. There was never a time in the earth's history when biodiversity was so rich, plant life so lush and general nature so abundant. All thanks to CO2. We are now in a CO2 famine. Plant life has been steadily sequestering CO2 and turning it into coal faster than fungal decomposition can release it back int the air. If things keep going this way all life will die out in five million years from CO2 starvation. The optimal CO2 levels for plant growth are five times higher than in ambient air...think about it. Humans evolved to liberate the trapped CO2 and give nature enough fuel to keep life on earth going for another few hundred million years. Like yr man said - we as a species are just a punctuation mark in the history of life on earth. Its our moral duty to nature to burn ALL the fossil fuels as quickly as possible.
  3. But - but - but Trump said there was a thousand year's worth of coal under N. America!! Well, who knows. The only other option if state controlled economies - in other words global communism, new world order. Don't want to go down that road, I'd rather we just kept doing what we do and when the good stuff runs out we'll transition to renewables - but on our own terms NOT the globalist's. Its a funny thing, belief. Ive been on both sides of the issue, and when you're on the "believing in APW" side, it all looks very convincing. The scientists are honest and ernest, the data is true and good. The deniers are kooks or moral degenerates. When you finally get to the other side you realise that the scientists are just paid shills, the data is twisted out of all recognition, and it feels so good to be free. But then you realise the agenda of the alarmists...and you get depressed.
  4. Might be something to your theory. But since the peak oil scare new reserves have been discovered (USA), extraction techniques have evolved and other sources of energy discovered, gas etc. Also there's still coal. Vast, vast fields of coal. All these finds, supplemented by green tech where appropriate, better infrastructure and more efficient vehicles and industry... Should keep us going for hundreds of years.
  5. The "climate scientists" are on the take. In the 70's they were predicting an ice age. Vostok core samples...nuff said. I used to believe in man made global warming too, eventually I opened my mind to hearing the other side, now I'm firmly convinced it's a communist plot. It took four or five years to make the mental transition. I don't blame anyone who still 'believes' but I'll not humour the idea any more, sorry guys.
  6. I've read that Aspen is mandatory in Sweden, ie. - illegal to use pump petrol in 2-stroke machines - ID be interested to know if this is true, and if it is, do the Swedes actually comply? Any Swedes on the forum?
  7. 1. Its the thin end of the wedge that will break apart the religion of AGW. 2. It will permit other nations to follow suite. 3. Not going to make any difference to the climate
  8. There's always been a 1%...personally I have no problem with a few holding most of the wealth - provided the rest of us have a sufficiency, the protection of law and order, and the freedom to earn as much or as little as we can or want to, by the honest work of our hands. Let the rich eat cake, I'm happy with bread. It's guillotine time when the rich take away half your loaf and give it to those who won't work....
  9. "Hello - Traditional Tree Surgery LTD? Yes hi - do you do drone retrievals? My, ah, assistance drone is stuck in a tree..."
  10. My pal was in India last winter. He found himself attending a cremation, and was offered a slug of "genuine Scotch Wiskey" - Glenlivet or something... Well...it might have been Wiskey, but it sure wasn't distilled in Scotland!! ; )
  11. Agreed. Expulsion and exile is the way to go - and better screening for new arrivals.
  12. Check out the Rapid Ascent System (RADS) single rope, top tie or base, with a descender and a hand ascender+pully. Hard to describe, but its what the industrial rope access guys use.
  13. Should just be snug, movable by hand (gloved hand, carefully). If they too loose material will jam between the teeth, if they too tight will strain the machine. Also be sure to oil them well, all mating surfaces with a spray, preferably something natural like spray-on frying oil - and do it often, before and after every use, and during the day, if the machine is seeing a few hours use.
  14. Wasn't serious - I enjoy the drama muchly! But I dunno how many here are members of Arboristsite too - like four of the top ten threads there are political, including a Manchester thread - and those fellers don't mince words. Its all relative...
  15. We have a feral herd on some commonage behind our forest. Its an over-grown sitka plantation, some of the trees are two feet across and the goats have them wrecked. Never underestimate a goat.
  16. Round up all the troublemakers in Arbtown and deport them to Arboristsite, and never let them back in
  17. If you're unsure about where the tension lies in the limb - sometimes it can be hard to know, if the limb itself is under tension from something else other than gravity, ie. another limb, the ground, etc. - if thats the case try to make a series of shallow cuts all around where you want to cut the limb, to gradually release the tension and also reveal the nature of the tension. That will then give you an indicator of where to put your main cut.
  18. Duterte declared martial law a few days ago. Isis gangs have taken over part of a city in one of the islands....he's considering letting legally armed civilians defend themselves, to supplement the police.
  19. The Swedish defence minister reintroduced the draft a couple of months ago. Mandatory service for boys and girls...claimed it's in response to Russian activity near their border...
  20. Yes, that's the Old Testament anyway, essentially the history of the Jews. Christian doctrine is derived from the New Testament. Old testament said "An eye for an eye", New Testament says "Turn the other cheek". Its a common misdirection, or intellectual dishonestly that people use to discredit Christianity when asked to compare Christianity with Islam. I've done it myself, to piss off the Jahova's Witnesses.
  21. My money says we never hear about this guy again. Manchester bombing: Birmingham vigil 'interrupted by man with knife and baseball bat' | The Independent
  22. Well sure enough, determined gangstas will do their thing, but the schemes do work for the most part, and certainly cut down on the door to door white van nonsense. Just having a neighbourhood meeting once a year would be a help.
