  1. Hi All, my Stihl FS460 clutch housing cracked at the shaft sleeve last week, after 2 years of moderate use. Not impressed, anyway, sent for a new part and replaced, but now the machine won't run. Dies on the least bit of throttle, will run if I keep pumping the bulb. Tried new petrol mix, Aspen, no difference. I'm wondering if I broke or dislodged something while doing the clutch housing replacement...but I'm gentle, and don't think I did. What are the chances of a carb problem appearing the same day, essentially, as the clutch housing breaking? Could there be a connection? Any thoughts?
  2. Firebomb on London Tube this morning. Stampede, many injured. Photo of a bucket with wires coming out of it inside a Lidl carrier bag.
  3. Ok, I got one. Lost in Rhododendron! http://www.radiokerry.ie/two-people-rescued-becoming-lost-rhododendron-killarney-national-park/
  4. That's for sure...how about some local news from small town papers? Some excellent comedy to be found in local news, a-la Thick As A Brick fictional front page (I forget the name) "Mrs so-and-so from no. 68 High Street fell down at 11.15 this morning while walking along High Street and is unharmed" There was a good one on Radio Kerry yesterday, when a couple of Sinn Fein councillors stormed out of a meeting over the council's lack of enthusiasm for their idea of flying the Palestinian flag over town hall! For real.
  5. You're really in the hole now Skyhuck. Showed your true self, so you did. Trying to weasle out of it now...too late.
  6. If immigration policy continues down the current road, you, and all of us, will eventually end up being subject to extremists whether we like it or not. Either nationalist jackboots or Sharia jackboots. Some of us can see the future. The loopy lefties are making the bed for all of us, at the moment, with their iron-clad denial of reality. When the jackboots start kicking our doors in, we will have the "SJWs" to thank...
  7. Ummmmm...you got me there. I reckon I read "deciduous" and my brain interpreted it as "delicious" - thus causing a mental associating with fruit. The mind is a funny auld thing.....
  8. Just thought of something, if Ollie wanted to avoid friction abrasion altogether, he could consider a SRT set up. Would have to buy some extra hardware though, but that would sort the problem. If the trees are small enough to access with a ladder (as fruit trees I would expect this) he could buy or make a lanyard with a protective sleeve. I have a coupe CT Finch lanyards like this and they work well, the sleeve really stays put.
  9. Yes all true, I've watched the fail vids as well. But we don't know the peramiters, as you say, of Ollie's trees, his physical fitness, the tools at his disposal etc. So we cannot know what the risks are in this particular case and I (personally) don't like to presume and by presuming possibly aoofend and alienate. But whatever. It's good that there are anal people around to remind us to think twice...
  10. Tried to reply but sent to Mr. Bullman's email by mistake - as I was saying, no need to coddle grown men, we all take risks, we all know our abilities, trained or not, and if we don't know we find out quick enough.
  11. Ignore the trolling Ollie47, I would be concerned about abrasion, for the trees sake. Fruit trees tend to be thin barked no? Just use the rope as is until you can reach the crotch then pad the tree with something, an old wadded t shirt or whatever. Tie a bit of string to it so you can retrieve it from the ground later
  12. If Trump launches a preemtive strike the media and haters will call him an irresponsible war monger, mad, "Thanks for starting WW3" etc. If he holds off untill Kim drops one on a neighboring state they'll say he should have done something when he had the chance and it's all his fault. China says they will remain neutral (!?!) if Kim strikes first, but will take NK side if the USA strikes first.
  13. Can't see from the external photos but check that the flu sections are connected the right way - each section should slot INTO the one below it, so when condensation and rain ingress runs down the inside of the pipe it stays inside and eventually runs into the stove or fireplace. It should be the opposite of how slates overlap, many people get it wrong. I can see where the black stovepipe mates with the twinwall the overlap is wrong, but it looks like the seepage is coming in further up the pipe.

  15. The key point is "one handable" - there will be many, many instances when you will have to make a cut with one hand at full reach, simply because your other hand will be occupied holding a branch to maintain your position. This is obviously only a factor when aloft, on the ground a backhandle saw is always superior.
  16. I often find myself needing to left-hand the polesaw, and I'm right handed. Same with the hedger. Never burned myself. Could be that the exhaust on the higher end tools has a baffle to direct the hot gasses forward rather than out the side? I know the 131 does, must check the hedger later. Could you modify the Lidl tool with a bit of bent pipe to achieve this? Not trying to be funny, must be a total pain in the ass to have to work with everting on the "wrong" side...hope your burn mends quickly.
  17. Solar eclipse this evening, bringing edgy energy and potential weirdness....be mindful and careful at work everyone.
  18. Definitely don't use gin wheels with a tirfors or any kind of puller - they're only rated for 250kg or something, like hoisting buckets of mortar up scaffolding! I like ratchet lever pullers, like a block and chain but with a handle - strong, compact. I got the chain length upgraded though, need at least 4m for forestry work.
  19. Theres a chemical they sell in outdoor camping stores called Permethrin. You mix it with water and soak your clotting in it, dry the clothing and it stays in the fibers for months, ever after repeated washing. Will kill or deter insects and arachnids on contact...Its the same stuff in Spot-On sheep and cattle treatment, which might be cheaper. They say its safe once the clothing dries, like you won't absorb it though your skin.
  20. What a bummer, you're right we should count ourselves lucky. At the risk of sounding trite, would it be possible, financially, for you to invest in a small MEWP? A second hand tracked unit or something of the sort - I realise they are expensive. If this was feasible, it would allow you to do some, if not all, of the work, as well as other kinds of stuff like maintenance and painting. In my experience, limited as it is, the most of tree surgery type work isn't major climbing anyway, more like messy removals, monotonous pruning and so on. I also have the climbing gear and rarely need to use it - 80% of the high up stuff is pole saw territory and tricky leaners and such can be manhandled with chains and tirfors/lever hoists.
  21. Yes, and it's that dynamic that keeps our cultures healthy. Harmony through conflict - by competing in village rivalry and being "soft enemies" in peacetime, we stay mentally ready for true conflict in times of war, when local rivalry is put aside. This principle is baked into our free-market capitalist system as well; advancement of the whole through competition of the many. It's this natural system that's under attack now by the feminising nanny state institutions - "everyone's a winner", no fighting allowed, everyone's the same....
  22. You've just described the psychology of every tribe on the planet since the dawn of history. All Arabs are Arab supremacists. All Africans are (insert tribe here) supremacists. It's human nature. We whites, modern whites, want to be supreme in our own lands. We want our law to be the law of the land, we want the protection of law to enjoy any and all parts of our lands. We don't want no go zones where the "other" is supreme. In OUR countries. We don't want to be murdered by the other. If this is what you mean by white supremacists then colour me a supremacist. I'm absolutely sick the the back teeth with this PC bullshit. You leftists are betraying your tribe. And the tribe's patience will one day run out.
  23. There were many articles of secession, different greivences, different states. Slavery was one, more of an issue for some states than others. Historians disagree to what extent slavery weighed, most Americans, when polled, feel the states rights issue was more of a factor than slavery. At this stage it's all academic anyway, people will believe whatever narrative they want...
  24. The Civil War wasn't over slavery anyway, it kicked off over the southern confederacy trying to secede from the union. The slavery angle got involved later, as I understand it.
