  1. Run them dry and put them away. You'll never get any where near your money back and would cost a fortune to buy new ones the future, even second hand stihl on I'd going for silly money. Sent from my XT1580 using Arbtalk mobile app
  2. You will not go wrong with a Casio g shock, they have a huge range going from the £60 mark well up into the hundreds Sent from my MotoE2(4G-LTE) using Arbtalk mobile app
  3. I might be talking through my arse here but I have a a charnwood fire and and boiler. Running hot water and heating. Slightly different to the Esse I know. No separate water store though. I fitted it myself, typical gravity fed system with pump near the fire which is turned on and off manually. I've never had any trouble with cold water and the only specialist valve I remember fitting was basically a three way reducer. Probably not it's correct name. I had to buy it from charnwood. If you have a gravity fed system there shouldn't be much to go wrong. Sent from my MotoE2(4G-LTE) using Arbtalk mobile app
  4. Didn't think of farmers basically because most of them are tight wads around here but it's worth a try. I set the Google ads at the lowest amount which is £30 odd a month. You get charged a £1 odd a click but that doesn't guarantee you an enquiry. As I said I tried for two months, got all clicked out but no work out of it. If you wanted to spend more then obviously you could. Sent from my MotoE2(4G-LTE) using Arbtalk mobile app
  5. Don't forget the sheep!! Yes lots of trees. It's surprising what people grow in thier gardens around here. Sent from my MotoE2(4G-LTE) using Arbtalk mobile app
  6. You make some good points there flatyre. I'm wondering too whether if advertising as a qualified and insured is putting people off as stupid as that sounds, I know there are people around here getting tree work and they are definitely not insured or qualified. eg cutting limbs from trees, off ladders with a chainsaw in one hand and holding on with the other! I think advertising the tree work separately is definitely one to think about though. Cheers Sent from my MotoE2(4G-LTE) using Arbtalk mobile app
  7. I've only ever properly paid for advertising with yellow pages once. It was a complete wastes of money. I did run two months on Google adwords recently but not one lead from that. The only other stuff I've done is get the van sign written and run a few local ads, and obviously I've always got some quality cards handy. Nearly all my work comes from word of mouth. 9. Hi all and a happy new year. Just wondering how people are doing for tree work in South Wales. I do landscaping and maintenance which ticks over ok but wanted to get into trees. So i've done my tickets and got my kit, got the insurance, all off my own back, which isn't cheap as you know, but a year and a bit on I'm still struggling to get the work. I enjoy tree work and it beats cutting grass for sure. I've had new cards done and advertised all over the net, telling my existing customers too but not much happening? Any advice or anyone been in a similar situation? Thanks in advance Sent from my MotoE2(4G-LTE) using Arbtalk mobile app
  10. As others have said here I think proper planning and a contingency plan is essential. I also think it should be compulsory to have a rescue line and harness and hitch etc. set up ready to go in the tree and you should always be thinking of" can I self rescue from here" when you're in the tree. When I did my training we had to aim for 15 mins to get a line up and get set up and get to the casualty, which is ok if it's an easy tree and you have a less serious injury to deal with. If you have a serious bleed then it more likely to be a couple of minutes. If it's an aerial bleed then it could be a lot less than that. As for treatment of a bleed I carry celox granules and an Israeli bandage in my personal first aid kit. I also have both in the big kit in the van. From what I have read celox acts as a plug and coagulates with the blood. I don't see problems with it entering the bloodstream. Both celox and the Israeli bandage are used in battle fields all over the world, that's a good enough endorsement for me. As for self administering I would rather have both items in my kit than not. Hope fully I will never need them. Sent from my MotoE2(4G-LTE) using Arbtalk mobile app

  18. The last couple of climbing jobs I've done the customer has come out and asked if my ground man I I want a cuppa, stupid question. But i'm up the tree and can't be bothered to come down for a cuppa then haul my fat arse back up. So I botched this together and it only cost me about £4 to make. Work

I have worked in churches and for the local diocesan board. Make sure you make your payment terms clear as you may be waiting a while for payment depending on the set up they have? Just some practical advice, church committees can be very finicky. Sent from my BV6000 using Arbtalk mobile app
  20. Bright colours in autumn are produced because of sugars left in the leaf as the tree becomes dormant so maybe the tree is not getting enough light, maybe the tree is not ready for winter yet. Sent from my BV6000 using Arbtalk mobile app
  21. Forstner bits but a good quality one that size will cost you a bit Sent from my BV6000 using Arbtalk mobile app
  22. Funnily enough I did a job a few weeks ago. Taking down a pine, a conifer and some hawthorn, nothing very big, around 15 ft I'd say. taking away the waste, then putting up feather edge fencing. A but of an awkward job and I had to go back and say I'd measured up wrong and there would some extra to pay. The customer's mother in law piped up and said I shouldn't be charging extra as I have kept the logs from the trees and will probably sell them. It turned out she wanted them. What a f*cking liberty. People never cease to amaze me! Sent from my BV6000 using Arbtalk mobile app

  24. Hi guys, thanks for the advice. I know they're not great, far from the high standard on here, and with work usually slackening off through the winter I will hopefully have more time on my hands. I just thought rather than let them rot in the garden, some one might be interested in them. I have seen a lot worse for sale. Any how when I get onto my next piece I'll post it up for some feed back. Cheers all. Sent from my BV6000 using Arbtalk mobile app
  25. Hi All, I am quite new to carving and Ihave done a few carvings, although I haven't had much time lately. Just wondered what you thought and what kind of money you would be asking for them, bearing in mind I'm in south wales and not London. Thanks in advance. Sent from my BV6000 using Arbtalk mobile app
