  1. I always use the hedge cutter Sent from my XT1580 using Arbtalk mobile app
  2. Was talking about the same thing to one of my customers last week. She has a large old ash in her garden and it's bare as are others. Down is sunny South Wales. Sent from my XT1580 using Arbtalk mobile app
  3. If you advertised your van with all that kit here the tea leaves would be queuing up to break in. Brilliant set up though. Sent from my XT1580 using Arbtalk mobile app
  4. I've been running a husky 143r for the last 3 years. Very controllable and not too heavy and plenty of grunt. I was wary of buying it as I've had some of the home owner stuff and it has been crap. The only niggle i do have with the 143 is that you need to do the whole cold start process even when it's warm. I've also got a mitox with a with the big Kawasaki engine, that's a beast of a strimmer and i usually keep the blade on that. Sent from my XT1580 using Arbtalk mobile app
  5. Hi Harry, I haven't long got home and was hoping to find some detailed info on inosculation in one of my books. But no luck. Apparently it can happen at root level. The stems do look very close together, is it possible that they have fused below the pebbles in the pics? I'm not entirely sure that inosculation would allow the trees to share each others genetics and there fore produce leaves of each other. Sent from my XT1580 using Arbtalk mobile app
  6. Hi Harry. When you have time look up inosculation in trees. This may be the answer to your question. Maybe. Sent from my XT1580 using Arbtalk mobile app
  7. From the photos it looks like 2 different trees, different bark on each stem. Looks like separate leaf growth on each stem too. Sent from my XT1580 using Arbtalk mobile app
  8. Don't get me wrong, I'm not sticking up for any one here, I'm stating facts, the police budgets have been cut year on year for years under the Tories so they are now having to prioritize what they investigate and from what I see, nobody is getting hurt during these thefts so they don't bother, not something I agree with. And I only point out what the cps website says defending yourself with reasonable force. Personally I agree with the laws that most American states have and would like to see them here. If that f****r decides to break into my home or trespass on my property then he risks getting a double tap from my MP5 and I should not have to worry about recriminations. 😁 Sent from my XT1580 using Arbtalk mobile app
  9. I really feel for the people having equipment stolen, there's nothing worse than saving hard to buy equipment and having some tosser steel it. I agree with others here, they should have their hands chopped off, the police are so stretched now that investigating "petty crime" seems to a no no. As for getting off with shooting some one, this is just one judges opinion, the law says you are allowed to use reasonable and appropriate force. You would only get off with doing serious damage to some one If you thought you or your families life was in danger, and then you have to prove it was necessary to run your best knife over the back of all his fingers.😁 Sent from my XT1580 using Arbtalk mobile app
  10. Caustic soda? Sent from my XT1580 using Arbtalk mobile app
  11. Very interesting, I wouldn't have thought of that. I will give that a go. Do any of you use die grinders or mini grinders? Are they worth investing in? I see Axminster tools do a proton long neck mini grinder for just over £100 and a "pro die grinder" for £90. Any thoughts? Sent from my XT1580 using Arbtalk mobile app
  12. What is your weapon of choice for detail carving? Thanks Sent from my XT1580 using Arbtalk mobile app
  13. Very nice, certainly better than my owl. Sent from my XT1580 using Arbtalk mobile app
  14. Thanks for the helpful comments I have split the carvings and done some reworking but not finished yet. Another question I would like to ask is do any of you finish your carvings with any thing such as paint or oil for example. Sent from my XT1580 using Arbtalk mobile app
  15. Thanks for the advice both, definitely no offense taken, I don't have time to carve as much as I'd like and any advice is gratefully received Sent from my XT1580 using Arbtalk mobile app
  16. Ok no problem Sent from my XT1580 using Arbtalk mobile app
  17. Hi, I have a bit of lilac, it's not very big though. I have a piece that's around 20 inches x 3.5 inches the other piece is the same length and slightly wider. Let me know if they're any good. Sent from my XT1580 using Arbtalk mobile app
  18. Hi all, It's been a couple of months since my last post. I have been working on a mini totum style carving but now considering separating the two. Any opinions or comments would be appreciated. Sent from my XT1580 using Arbtalk mobile app
  19. I did some training with Chris! Great guy. Sorry to hear about the theft. Bastards should get their fingers cut off. Sent from my XT1580 using Arbtalk mobile app
  20. Thanks for that Alec, sounds good advice, it's not clear from the pic but the ladder is access to a platform in the tree. The customers late husband built it for the kids I think, it's pretty cool. I ended up taking down the over all height of that tree then thinning some of the old epicormic growth, mainly multiple shoots to leave single ones. There wasn't much more in the pile after. The same with the other trees, so hopefully I'm on the right track, I will follow your advice about the mulch, I cut the grass there too so it will make it much easier around the trees. 21. Cheers I will have a look later Sent from my XT1580 using Arbtalk mobile app
  22. Hi all, got a pruning job on today, customer wants trees reduced and thinned etc to promote better fruit growth. As I look closer at the trees there is a lot of epicormic growth from previous pruning, I've cut a fair bit, rot etc but they don't look much different. They all have canker to some degree and the three at the bottom are full from trunk up, I have suggested cutting them down and replanting but she's not into that. Anyway my question is would you cut back to the primary growth on these trees and then keep the growth in check over coming years to get a better form or persist with the thinning etc. Cheers all. 23. How did nobody notice 200 trees being cut? Looks like dwellings of some sort at the back of the picture? Sent from my XT1580 using Arbtalk mobile app
  24. I'd do some research on what your money will buy with regards to Husqvarna, especially the home owner range, I think a lot of their stuff is unreliable. Can't speak for stiga. If your thinking of a walk behind then you won't go far wrong with masport for reliability and value for money. I have use them for years on my grass rounds and do bigger gardens with it as well. I'm going to look at an etesia pro later this month, supposed to be the muts nuts in all weathers but comes with a hefty price tag for a push mower. Don't by an Ariens LM. Absolute waste of time in any thing other than short dry grass. Sent from my XT1580 using Arbtalk mobile app
  25. The OP has said that he bought the tools second hand to begin with, so chances are that they are not in A1 condition and are older tools. Hence he's probably not going to get any thing near enough back to buy quality tools in the future. Usually the stuff bringing good money on eBay is fairly new and in good condition, usually. Hope that clarifies what I meant. Sent from my XT1580 using Arbtalk mobile app
